I'm trying to get my friends to read it, and pretty much everyone I know! lol What I like most about this book, is that the author does so well balancing out all the serious parts and the hilarious ones. I caught myself literally laughing out loud so many times! I'm glad the author decided to share her struggles with us. I think it's going to help a lot of people. I know it's helped me.

Curiosity House: The Shrunken Head, by Lauren Oliver, H. C. Chester

From School Library Journal Gr 4–6—The Dumfrey's Dime Museum of Freaks, Oddities, and Wonders is home to four orphans: Philipa, Sam, Thomas, and the newest addition, Max. Each child possesses an unusual skill, such as Max's knife-throwing routine, which is performed for the audience's amusement. There is an Odditorium where live performances take place and a Hall of Worldwide Wonders where unusual items selected by Mr. Dumfrey, the museum's owner, are on display. An Amazonian shrunken head is the museum's newest acquisition. When the shrunken head is unveiled at a live performance, a member of the audience passes out and later dies, solidifying the skull's reputation of being cursed. When the head is stolen, the four kids are determined to get it back—and solve the mysteries of the related deaths. From the opening sentence, Oliver grabs readers' attention, enveloping them with strong storytelling and rich language. VERDICT The first book in a new series, the various oddities, intrigues, and its quirky cast of characters are sure to captivate and become a new favorite for mystery lovers.—Helen Foster James, University of California at San Diego

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A Very Promising Beginning for a New Series ... By delicateflower152 The “Curiosity House: The Shrunken Head” is the beginning of a promising new series from Lauren Oliver and H.C. Chester. Set in the 1930’s, the story involves the residents – four preteens and a number of adults - of Dumphrey’s Dime Museum, a missing shrunken head that may carry a curse, a sensationalist reporter, and the nefarious Professor Rattigan. The introductory page immediately draws readers into and creates a tone of a circus-like, sensational atmosphere that Dumphrey’s Dime Museum projects. The residents of Dumphrey’s Dime Museum are individuals - human oddities, some who have peculiar physical attributes - who form a family with one another. Their residence at the Museum protects them from outside dangers. This is similar to the living situation described in Stacy Carlson’s “Among the Wonderful”.Mr. Dumphrey has the characteristics of a P.T. Barnum-like, sideshow barker. As owner of Dumphrey’s Dime Museum, he is willing to accept Bill Evans’, head reporter for “The Daily Screamer”, outrageous stories because of the publicity. “…Who cares what they think, so long as they’re interested …” Four young residents of the Museum - Thomas, intellectually brilliant and a “contortionist”, Max, a street-smart, pugnacious girl and skilled knife-thrower, Phillippa (“Pip”), a mentalist/mind-reader, and Samson (“Sam”), a youthful strongman - form an unlikely team of detectives. The four young protagonists value each other and their unique individual gifts. Thomas expresses this when he is faced with an antagonist. “…he never thought of different as …bad …He thought of it as being special …” In this aspect, the four are similar to the children in Ransom Riggs’ “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”.As they search for the missing shrunken head that was Dumphrey’s most recent acquisition, suspicious deaths mark the trail of the shrunken head’s journey through various hands. Bill Evans sensationalizes not only the search and the rumored curse associated with the head, but also the children’s situation. Unexpected developments result in the recovery of the shrunken head and provide material for the next book in this new series.“Curiosity House: The Shrunken Head” is exquisitely written – strong characterizations and intriguing hints of stories yet to be written maintain the reader’s interest throughout. Descriptions create vivid pictures for the reader to imagine. Describing a dead body the children find, Lauren Oliver and H. C. Chester write “…His face was the bruised purple of a storm cloud …” Although set in the 1930’s, events and characters might have seemed even more believable if the novel had been set in the late 1800’s. As I read, I kept picturing New York City and London during the last years of the reign of Queen Victoria. Language and situations – aside from several vivid descriptions of dead bodies – are appropriate for all ages of readers. Although the ARC contained only one illustration that appeared to be finished artwork, that drawing was reminiscent of the work of Charles Addams. If that drawing is any indication of the quality of illustration in the completed book, Benjamin Lacombe's artwork in the final published edition of “Curiosity House: The Shrunken Head” should add immensely to its appeal.

It is the first book in The Curiosity House series. It features four remarkable orphans (all around 12 years old): Pippa, Sam, Thomas and Max. Pippa is a mentalist (she can tell what is in people's pockets). Sam is the world’s strongest boy. Thomas can squeeze himself into small spaces. And Max (girl) is an amazing knife-thrower. They perform and live at Dumfrey’s Dime Museum of Freaks, Oddities, and Wonders. This book is MG, which is not really my normal reading. Although I do read a lot of Young Adult. I really like some of Lauren Oliver's other books. So that is why I wanted to read this book.I did really enjoy the kids performing. They were all incredibly talented and it was amazing to read about what they could do. I also thought that the mystery was a very cute idea.Mr Dumfrey owns and runs a crazy museum. He gets a new exhibit, a shrunken head. It goes missing. And subsequently all kinds of craziness and disasters occur (including accidents and murders). The four kids try to solve the mystery. This part of the story was interesting. And I liked the mishaps they got into while trying to figure things out. However, the book has third person narration. And the POVs change a lot. Truthfully I struggled to figure out who was talking. And I really don't think that this should be the case for a MG book.I don't know that the time period the book is set in is listed. Although I've seen some people say it is the 1930s, which feels right. I think this might be part of the reason why I had a hard time finishing this book. I would have rather that it was made clear when this book was taking place. There is so much description about the museum. Too much description. And almost 400 pages for a middle grade book seemed like too much to me.I think that kids who are 10-13 might enjoy this mystery. However, there are a lot of murders. So I am not sure how appropriate the book would be for younger kids. The book is obviously targeted to kids. And the murders aren't overly gory. But I don't think I would recommend this to those under 10.The ending was good. There was an explanation re: the murderer and an explanation re: the kids. Also there was a twist that I liked (and didn't guess). Overall, this was a cute middle grade mystery. Thanks to edelweiss and HarperCollins for allowing me to read this book.

Entertaining read for kids By Georgia Mom Reviews for books are difficult because you have to walk a fine line between talking about the book and not giving anything away that might ruin it for others. I gave this to my two son's to read (8th and 5th grade). They both thought it was a good book but getting much more out of boys than that proved challenging so I read it myself so that I could provide a bit more insight. The book is about four special kids who end up trying to figure out who stole the shrunken head and why people are dying. From an adults perspective I thought the book was engaging, with well crafted characters that kids could easily relate to. In addition, the writers did a fabulous job of painting the scenes so that a reader could easily envision what was going on. It is fiction, but personally I thought the plot was a bit circuitous but in the end it brought everything to closure, and yet still set itself up for another book in the future. I was also left wondering why the shrunken head was sold only to be stolen back. Ends up the head didn't really play much of a part in the book and it's relation to the plot was questionable. However, this isn't something a child will notice. The age range as listed by the publisher is 8-12 and I would say that is fair as far as enjoyment level goes. I personally believe it written more on a 4th possibly 5th grade reading level. I hope this helps. Overall, I think most kids will really enjoy reading this book.

Starting with the cover By Amazon Customer I received a copy of this book as a Christmas gift and I love it! Starting with the cover, it's beautiful and satiny -I love running my hands over it! It's a full size book with plenty of room for writing our story. Each entry has a fun quote and the prompts lead into telling the fun stuff -how we met, nicknames, favorite activities- and getting into depth as well -our challenges, what am I learning, how do I know this is something special- It's a well rounded record of memories with open space for photos and mementos as well. Fun, yes, but also a tool for exploration. I've never seen a book quite like this one! I'll be ordering one for my parents and now I have a great go-to gift for bridal showers!

Excerpt from Samuel JohnsonSamuel Johnson was born in Lichfield in 1709. His father, Michael Johnson, was a bookseller, highly respected by the cathedral clergy, and for a time sufficiently prosperous to be a magistrate of the town, and, in the year of his son's birth, sheriff of the county. He opened a bookstall on market-days at neighbouring towns, including Birmingham, which was as yet unable to maintain a separate bookseller. The tradesman often exaggerates the prejudices of the class whose wants he supplies, and Michael Johnson was probably a more devoted High Churchman and Tory than many of the cathedral clergy themselves. He reconciled himself with difficulty to taking the oaths against the exiled dynasty. He was a man of considerable mental and physical power, but tormented by hypochondriacal tendencies. His son inherited a share both of his constitution and of his principles. Long afterwards Samuel associated with his childish days a faint but solemn recollection of a lady in diamonds and long black hood.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The sentences are complex and run on, but the content reflects a depth of connection and understanding of people and life situations. The vocabulary and word usage is expansive, as should be expected from the author of the first English language dictionary. I have gained a high respect for the author and his works.

Twenty years later, and getting under her skin is still his favorite pastime. And Bo’s still the only thing that keeps them tied together. Even if he has been dead for eight years. For better or worse, Trix and Penn have been the constant in each other’s lives, and the line between love and hate continues to blur at a steady rate…but Trix is the last girl on earth a guy like Penn should fall for. So there’s no telling which side of love and hate they’ll wind up on when all is said and done. And whether they’ll wind up there, still together...or not.

Colora I'm glad I had a few days to think about this review and didn't post it directly after reading the book because I was seriously P’d off.I realized that I had to judge the book based on the content not my reaction to the ending so here goes. The writing is excellent. The editing and flow of the story is great, the character draw you in and you take the journey with them as their relationship develops, this books is absolutely great until the epilogue some people will read it and think it was a great twist for me I was just angry but that has to do with the fact that I like very clear cut happily ever aftersThis book is worth the read I would suggests not reading the epilogue.

By DawnD After reading, Last Girl, I thought, how can I possibly convey how beautifully unique this story is without coming across as cliche’ or using other people’s language?K.S. Thomas created poetry within her writing. Her use of imagery and metaphors caused me to pause for a moment of reflection. Almost all of the dialogue between the characters had clever sayings, maybe similes, too, if I remember the definition from H.S English class, that had me chuckling and praising her wit in my mind. So, now, I will attempt to be sort of, kind of, poetic when I compare the author’s writing in this book to a Vahz, yes, I’m talking about a vase, so bare with my quirkiness for a sec. lol Like a Vahz, the story was gracefully handcrafted and artfully presented, showing meticulous attention to detail. Penn and Beatrix "Trix”are beautifully flawed just like the cracks in an antique china doll, but unlike the doll, their cracks run far beneath the surface.“All I ever wanted was to be there to take care of you after you caught whatever was coming your way, so you can go back and catch more.”~PennA moment of silence…sigh..‘Last Girl’ shows how one can become entrapped in heartache and pain, and seemingly think that there is no way out. How a heart can sink to the very depths of the ocean without a glimmer of light. I was introduced to a whole new perspective of love and loss, with the underlying message that every heart can heal. In time, there comes a transformative moment in one’s life that allows that person to free themselves from the prison they punished themselves in.Okay, just one itty bitty cliché’. Expect the unexpected. Seriously, this book is no joke. ;) The epilogue showcases the writer’s obvious talent.I give, Last Girl, 5 stars written on a fogged up bathroom mirror. '

Bo was the fulcrum of their Love/ Hate relationship in life and and is the lynch pin of their relationship in death. In the beginning it is easy to see that their relationship is not healthy. It seems obvious that they should have gone their own way many years before and at the death of Bo should not have been enough to keep these two in any kind of relationship. Turns out that is true, Bo isn’t the reason. Each is in love with the other and must come to terms with it in his and her own way.The book is roller coaster of emotions for both the characters and the reader. This book is fantastically written and I want to be clear about that, because I spent most of the book thinking that the story just seemed too forced, something just didn’t ring true about it. The relationship, with its wide mood swings just seemed too unbalanced to work.I did eventually warm up to the love story and just when I was feeling comfortable with the everything-is going-to work-out conclusion that seemed to be coming as the end of the book loomed, I got kicked in teeth with one emotional twist after another. The ending had me spitting mad and realizing that it all suddenly made sense. I am not a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks style tearjerkers, but I am aware that they are wildly popular with a huge portion of fiction readers, so I am sure this particular book, though not my cup of tea, is destined for success.I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

As America exploded into the swinging sixties, nine-year-old Mary Patricia's parents fled their old melting pot neighborhood to join the upwardly mobile members of the cocktail generation. Abandoned at seventeen when her family moves yet again, Mary Patricia is left to ride out a tsunami of struggle, including lying about her age in order to land a job working for the Chicago Mafia. Gut instinct tells her that she is in imminent danger and she escapes, to the counterculture of Southern California in the early 1970s and then a jubilant Bicentennial Manhattan. Her tenacious pursuit of a college degree takes her north to Vermont, where she hopes for a stable life when she marries and has three sons. It’s a Pyrrhic victory as she confronts a string of calamities, including divorce, catastrophic illness and her parents' deaths after 9/11. Rising from the ashes, she and her husband reunite and Mary Patricia finally gets what she so richly deserves: The time of her life. “Spanning fifty years, Fading Past is by turns funny, poignant, and heart-rending—a tale of two centuries as eloquent as it is finely wrought.” Bestselling author James M. Tabor author of The Deep Zone and Forever on the Mountain. “Mary Kathleen Mehuron’s honest, memoir-like novel, Fading Past, tells the epic story of Mary Patricia Toohey, whose story bridges a half century of American history. It’s a clear-eyed yet kind-hearted examination of friendship, family ties, marriage, and courage, by a serious and thoughtful writer who knows whereof she speaks.” Howard Frank Mosher, award winning and bestselling author of A Stranger in the Kingdom and Where the Rivers Flow North. “Mehuron’s debut contains all of the elements that readers’ of women’s fiction look for - family entanglements, loves gained and lost, the search to recapture youth, and the rewards and forfeits of friendship." Nanci Milone-Hill author of Reading Women: A Book Club Guide for Women’s Fiction. “I couldn’t put it down. I read for hours, and when I finished, I wandered around for a while, still living with Mary Patricia and her family. . . so well written and a truly interesting story. Reeve Lindbergh author of Under a Wing and Forward From Here: Leaving Middle Age and Other Unexpected Adventures.

Overcoming Life's Obstacles By Janet Hubbard Mehuron describes in her fictional biography that one suspects contains a great deal of truth about what it was like to grow up in a multi-cultural community in New Jersey in the 1950s and 60s. Her family was second-generation Irish, and her parents were a part of the upward mobility culture. Her father was a Willy Loman-type character, exceptionally smart and ambitious, and rarely admitting defeat. He had a narcissistic and fragile wife and five children to support, which was daunting. The young Mehuron, who was too often put in the role of mother to the younger children, had inherited her father's determination to prove herself. At seventeen her parents abandoned her, and soon after her wealthy boyfriend did, too. In a way this is the classic story of the "American dream," where the belief is strong that with hard work and determination one can achieve success. And like her ancestors, Mehuron has a gift for storytelling as she writes about how she went about achieving her dream of a college degree, the surest path to success. The reader has high hopes for her as she earns her degree, moves to Vermont, marries well, and has children. But the worst is yet to me as she divorces, then learns she has breast cancer, and while undergoing treatment, is told that her father has died suddenly, followed by her mother a few weeks later. With learned fortitude, Mehuron forges a new life with her ex-husband. In the writing of this book she conveys through humor and story that we are in the constant process of creating ourselves, and our lives. "Fading Past" is a great read! (Full Disclosure: I edited the first version of this book.)

This semi-autobiographical novel reminds us why the only constant in life is change. My favorite parts can be told in two words: Chicago Mob.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. but instead loved children, growing up in sane families By katja v Mary Kathleen Mehuron has written an intriguing novel based mostly on her own, quite dramatic life. It reveals how important our childhood is and what is the meaning of a stable family, or the lack of it and how loves, friends, and children make our lives meaningful. If I could, I would force parenthood test for people wanting kids. The result would be not an overpopulated earth, but instead loved children, growing up in sane families. Anyway..The atmosphere, and places are well built, the writers own path, and the as well as interaction of friends, make an interesting and a moving story. An impressive tale of how she has survived immense obstacles, nourished herself with self-expression, living life to the fullest, not always by choice, but enriching her experience into becoming a deeply mature person. It shows us how old imagery of our loved ones can stop the communication, and finding peace with each other gives meaning to life. The difficulties and pains of the cancer phase are an overwhelming read. What a life!

Loving our children isn't always about hedonic pleasures or comforts. Most of the time, it is about maximizing their learning, creativity, playfulness, relationships, athleticism, FUN, interconnectedness, sense of adventure, decision making, cheerfulness, and joy -- all things that grow so much more away from the screen. I strongly recommend screen free zones in the house. This book is a great reminder that our brains, relationships, and our bodies hunger for something beyond a screen. Great messages in this book! I love the message that tough choices parents make is ultimately out of LOVE. As a psychologist, I highly recommend this book for families from toddlers to children to tweens to teenagers and parents alike. Great message for all!

Toney This book is such a fun read and a good reminder for all ages that unplugging is good for our brains AND our family relationships. I love the message that sometimes kids might not like parents making tough choices for them, but ultimately parents do it out of love.We have 4 kids ages 3-13 and this message is great for all of them.

Dancing on ice … The holiday season in New York City is supposed to be magical, but it’s not yet Thanksgiving, and what’s happening isn’t that kind of magic. The fairy world seems to be bleeding into the human world. Strange white horses carry people into the Central Park lake. Children are disappearing from their beds. Unearthly snow flurries pepper the air while odd pockets of summer appear randomly in Central Park. There’s even a suspicious wave of injuries among Broadway dancers and ballerinas, who feel like they’ve danced all night. Noticing this, outside enchantresses are converging on New York to stop what they think is a fae incursion. Sophie Drake knows the fae aren’t to blame, and she suspects that one of the enchantresses is up to no good, creating a situation that will put her in power. But revealing how she knows what’s happening would mean revealing her own fae ties to the anti-fae enchantresses. Not that she has time to deal with any of this. She’s been offered a major ballet role in The Nutcracker – a chance to revive her dance career. She can’t miss a step onstage as she tries to thwart the power play and balance the realms without running afoul of the fae or the enchantresses.

For anyone who hasn't read it - start with the first volume. It's very much a continuing story.I should add that there is a very strong romance element in the story, but nothing, I think, that could be categorized as particularly "sexual". It's a love story!. Also, there are exciting and dangerous situations in the story, but definitely nothing frightening - just exciting.

Well written - I read it straight through. Appreciated continued character development, and enjoyed the story. Would definitely read another installment.

It makes your college hunting so much more clear, and it really helps you understand what you should be doing. It answers important questions such as "do I really need college?" and "how much will it cost?", as well as explaining how to find & use your marketable interests to your advantage. It answers & explains many other things, but those are the parts that I really found helpful.Overall, I definitely recommend this guide. The information you will receive is golden, and it can mean the difference between making a good or bad life-changing decision.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Too simplistic and does not provide enough detail By JOHN H WONG If I could give this no stars, I would. It is not a book, but a pamphlet that thanks you for "downloading it" The content is too high level and does not provide enough detail to help students make college major decisions. Purchased "Panicked Student's Guide to Choosing a College Major" and it is much better at linking college majors to careers and potential salaries.

Meyer In her devotional, Jill takes you into the scripture to find those nuggets of truth that can make a difference in your day to day life. Unlike the extremely short devotionals that are no more than a thought, Do Life Differently takes you deeper and still allows you time to get dinner on the table.Sure to walk away encouraged, Jill doesn't leave it there. She offers a challenge at the end of each devotional that will point you toward a change for the better. Her style is relaxed, personal and authentic. You know she has been in the trenches, too, making it even easier to hear what she has to say.In addition to the written word, Jill's linked video devotionals gives you that face to face connection which helps make it all more personal. If you are looking for a new devotional, I recommend you give Jill's a try. You won't be disappointed.

Good Medicine for the Weary Soul By janice kline Being a former teacher, turned stay-at-home-mom, I can vouch for how difficult it is to carve out time-- ANY time-- for me to do anything that is solely for me to benefit from...devotions included. As a teacher, I had teeny-tiny breaks throughout the day that didn't allow much to get accomplished, but still, it was a far cry from what I do now, which is parenting and teaching my 2 small children. It was easier for me to nab some time for devotions when I was teaching...I could listen to a devotional on my 30 min. commute to and/or from work. I could read during my brief lunch break. There truly are no breaks in the day now, but I can carve out the very few minutes it takes to read about a page per week from this devotional, and pair it with my Scripture reading. The author, Jill Hart, CLEARLY understands what those of who work at home are up against when it comes to finding time to be still and listen to that still, small voice. After having our second baby in July 2013, I feel like I'm finally finding a way to get back into the swing of things, and that includes time for devotions. While I wish I could spend more time on devotions each day, it's not realistic for me right now, but this devotional provides a realistic approach for the stage of life that I am currently experiencing.I love how she keeps each devotional message short, sweet, and to the point. She is also so easy to relate to; when I read parts where she is speaking from her own experience, it's as though she tore a page out of the book of my own life. This causes me to have a great trust for her writing, and also causes me to open up more to the wisdom she has to offer. Consider giving this devotional a try, especially if you're tight on time and need to keep it real!

I’ve done the occasional freelance thing on the side (and, of course, run this review site), but I really don’t fit the target demographic Do Life Different was going for. That’s ok. While some of Jill’s specific points may not hit home as deeply for me as it does for those she is writing for, I was still able to come away from reading it with a number of takeaway thoughts and points. In Do Life Different, Jill Hart is seeking to encourage some of the most courageous people in our population: those that work (at home!), usually in order to better raise their children. The book begins with the admission that being a work at home mom leaves little room for reading time, but also reminds readers that a little bit of rest, relaxation, and meditation on the Word can go a long way. That, and there’s only one devotional per week. Just a couple pages. Perfect for just before bed, waiting in the school line, or—and Jill even admits this—bathroom time.I absolutely love that the book begins with Colossians 3:23. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” Right from the start, Jill builds the foundational truth that work is ministry. Each devotional tends to be about a page and a half long, beginning with a verse and ending with one or two questions of application. In addition to the book, Jill has created a video devotional that corresponds with each devotional message. 52 weeks of devotions. 52 weeks of video. In the ebook version, all it took was one simple tap of the iPad to pull up the video. The video devotions closely correspond to the same theme as the book, but go beyond just a restatement of the book in a video. If you absolutely do not have time to read the devotional, give the videos a try. However, they’re definitely best if used in conjunction with the printed work.Jill Hart has been in the business of helping work at home moms succeed for quite some time. If you go to her website (just search CWAHM or Christian Work at Home Moms), you’ll have access to a veritable treasure trove of practical information. Even though Do Life Different is…well…different from that practical nuts-and-bolts advice, it’s actually much more important and profound. Do Life Different will keep readers encouraged, hope filled, optimistic, and best of all, grounded in the Word.

Become more insightful, inspired parents through Jewish spiritual wisdom. We become partners with God.'' - from the Introduction. Parenting has never been easy - but in a culture that encourages more screen time than face time, how can you make sure that your children stay connected to what really matters in life? A Wonderful, Modern Guide for Today's Jewish Family By Hannah Trager Reading this book is like sitting down with Paul and Michelle at your kitchen table and having them tip you off as personal parenting coaches. This book is accessible to all, the spirituality from the Jewish tradition guides at one level, the deep professional roots and experience of both authors will inspire on a second level, and the very funny family stories will spark a smile and attitude to try something new in us all. Jewish Spiritual Parenting is a very modern and timely approach to the complications of parenting in today's world. Technology, social media, the LGBTQI community, and the inclusion of differently-abled children are all handled with relevant and valuable suggestions. The reader gets a bonus, and a comprehensive range of ideas, as the book is written with alternating perspectives from both Paul and Michelle. I liked the heft of the Jewish rituals and prayers combined with the wisdom of the authors' breadth of education and experience plus the very sweet tales from their own family.

The book is non-judgmental and covers a number of important lessons on how to balance and place priority on family, friends and community. For those with children, the compassionate and sometimes very funny stories told by Rabbi Paul and Michelle November will resonate immediately, especially those around co-parenting, camp adventures, mystery vacations and raising tech-savvy children in a social media world. In addition, the significance of tradition, and passing on key values to a new generation of children searching for emotional balance is a valuable lesson illustrated throughout the journey. The true meaning and importance of L'dor vador, from one generation to another has become the most important lesson I learned from this book. I can't recommend "Jewish Spiritual Parenting" highly enough-a 5 star read in my humble opinion.

Good ideas on how to raise children who are religious By Israel Drazin Jewish history is replete with stories of children who did not follow in the footsteps of their parents. This happened to Moses whose two sons are not even mentioned in the Bible after they were born and whose grandson, according to tradition, disobeyed the Torah and although only a Levite, he assumed the role of a priest. Two of Moses' brother Aaron's sons were killed, according to the Bible, for acting improperly. Judaism's greatest rational philosopher Maimonides’s son Abraham, while not forsaking Judaism in any way, stopped being a rationalist and became a mystic. The great rationalist Abraham ibn Ezra's son converted. And so on and so on. This situation, of course is not unique to Judaism. But is a human problem.Rabbi Kipnes and Michelle November offer sound advice how to avoid this problem and how to raise children who "become partners with God. They point out what is important, what to say, and what to do.their book contains eleven easy to read chapters followed by sections called "Try this," which contains good practical advice.
