What makes a person pack up and move to another country? What does she or he hope to gain from the experience? How do children fit into the picture? Our International Education presents the stories of three American women, a university professor, a high school math teacher, and a high school English as a second language teacher, who move to Hungary for a year to teach. Each woman brings her young children and enrolls them in local Hungarian public schools though none of them speak Hungarian at the beginning of the experience. The autoethnographic stories that make up Our International Education weave together the personal and professional dimensions of life abroad, illuminating not only the realities of negotiating work, school, and family life in another country, but also the complexities of cultural adjustment and second language acquisition. First-person storytelling makes this book a compelling read for those considering a move abroad with their family, and an excellent supplemental narrative for those studying second language acquisition, acculturation, autoethnography, and international education. “These interconnected stories of three women and their children living in Hungary offer an alternately uplifting and heartrending look at what families face when overseas. The co-authors present a deeply personal and vivid account of their bold adventure, from the initial thrill to the gradual revelation that life abroad is not always the carefree romp that some might perceive. Our International Education masterfully demonstrates the unequivocal impact of cross-cultural understanding.” – Eleni Kounalakis, United States Ambassador to Hungary 2010-2013 and author of Madam Ambassador: Three Years of Diplomacy, Dinner Parties, and Democracy in Budapest

By Amazon Customer This book opened my eyes up to the possibilities of parenting abroad! It gave me confidence that my love of travel and exploration does not need to stop because my children are entering school. I loved how honest the authors were, even when their experiences weren't glamorous. I read this entire book in one sitting and have been researching how do make a similar move with my family. It's a great read to explore family dynamics, parenthood and the trials and tribulations of living abroad. From understanding utility bills, foreign cuisine and public transportation, the authors did a remarkable job of navigating the reader through their adventures.

Our book club chose it as this month's book, since we have a few teachers in it. But, as it turned out, it's a joy to read, and you don't need to be a teacher either. The book follows 3 different women teachers who leave the the US behind to teach in Hungarian schools with families in tow for a full school year. Their stories are wonderfully written with ups & downs that come from not knowing the local language to the differences the way school children are taught & learn. Each of their stories are filled insights & funny happening that make the book a enjoyable read from start to finish.

By Susan McNerney Like pulling back a curtain and peeking into the private lives of three families negotiation the newness of another culture. I was particularly drawn to how this adventure seemed both to enhance marriages and sibling relationships, as well as challenge them to the point of anger and exhaustion. As a child therapist, I found myself particularly frustrated by the communications with the elementary school teachers and was rooting for some type of vindication, which ultimately resolved without the fireworks I envisioned in my head, but with a greater acceptance and appreciation for how another culture views children and education. Most importantly, if you are ever experiencing wanderlust, and concerned that it might not be good for your family....take a peek at this wonderful memoir....you might decide it's the BEST thing you can do for your family.

Oops . . . It started as a regular night for New York City restaurant hostess Ivy Sinclair, until a rowdy customer turned out to be world famous playboy Jack Everett. Thanks to the paparazzi, now the world thinks they’re a couple—which couldn’t be farther from the truth. But when a brooding, sexy businessman offers her a simply irresistible proposition…   Uh oh . . . Just when cutthroat venture capitalist Daniel Gladwell thought he’d never close the deal with an Italian conglomerate, a simple mistake becomes the perfect opportunity. All he has to do is convince Ivy to pretend to be Jack’s fiancée while on a business trip to Italy to offset Jack’s bad boy reputation. As long as Daniel doesn’t sabotage the plan by claiming the tempting waitress for himself . . .   Oh yes! It was supposed to be a business only arrangement. But in the magic of the Tuscan countryside, neither Ivy nor Daniel can fight the attraction building between them. In the world’s most romantic setting, the line between business and pleasure is one that begs to be crossed . . .

He and his handler, venture capitalist Daniel Gladwell, are about to close an important merger with a conservative Italian corporation and see Ivy as the perfect person to make Jack "change" his ways. She agrees to pose as Jacks fiancee in order for enough money to allow her to go back to college and help out her parents. As the ruse continue Ivy and Daniel grow closer and begin to have feeling for each other. Who will Ivy chose? Jack or Daniel....This is a cute book that features a nice twist on the fake engagement plot. It was a fast, fun read that was just right as a feel good book before bed. I was given a free copy for an honest review by netgalley.com

I've read two more of the author's books since then and really love her style By Mama B I bought this book for my sister and she read it in one day and then I borrowed it back and read it just as quickly. I've read two more of the author's books since then and really love her style. This book made my heart happy.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Overall, a sweet and sexy romance that I would recommend to any fan of the genre! By Samantha Bilodeau Very cute story with sizzling sexual tension practically from the get-go.Daniel was very believable as a workaholic with some interesting motivations. He was flawed in a way that worked, though it was a bit crazy how cold he could be! You could feel the ice when he turned it on! Ivy was a bit pathetic at times in regards to her life. I didn't get much of a sense of her having much of a drive, but this works well for an "opposites attract" type of story. The biggest thing to her being her family was admirable, as was her work ethic. There were some really adorable lines in this, especially from Daniel. "When this is all over, and we’re back in New York, I promise you’ll not only stay until morning, but I’ll wake you with breakfast in bed. How does that sound?”"The dialogue throughout felt very genuine, including the big fight. Fights aren't always written so well in fiction, so definitely big kudos to Maggie Dallen there. It was emotional in exactly the right way. The one issue that I have is the amount of times that everyone says "You're an idiot" or some variation always including "idiot." I think that maybe adding some sort of acknowledgment of it being used a lot would make it less repetitive. All of the supporting characters were wonderful! I look forward to more about Jack and Holly in the next book, as I really liked what I got to know of each in this one. Jack really infused a good amount of humor into every scene he was in.This story was fairly predictable. I saw the Brunelli's plan practically from the beginning (sneaky old man! ;)), and the end reveal from a ways off, but the little hints here and there were cute. Overall, a sweet and sexy romance that I would recommend to any fan of the genre!* I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my own.

A new adult romance from Entangled's Embrace imprint...

Sometimes you have to trust your heart to find out what home really means.

Duncan McAllister is marrying Elaina Tripoli tomorrow. Except—he's missing. Jordan, Noah, Griffin, Maggie, and Miles arrive in Greece for the festivities to find frantic messages from both the bride and groom. Noah and Griffin set off to find Duncan while Jordan, Maggie, and Miles try to salvage what should be a day of celebration before the wedding.

But the Americans have their own baggage. Noah's got a surprise planned for Jordan that has to go perfectly. Griffin's keeping life-changing news from Maggie. And Miles—well, he wasn't looking for love on this trip until a Greek sous chef named Alex rocks his world.

The race is on for Duncan to make it back to Elaina before she decides not to take him back at all. For Noah to make sure his monumental plan goes off without a hitch. For Griffin to tell Maggie the truth without losing her. For Miles to admit that letting himself fall in love is worth the risk.

Happily Ever After waits at the finish line…if the four couples can make it on time.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A series ender that surpasses expectations... By Jen Valencia Another beloved series is coming to an end, but if there was an ideal way to bring author A.J. Pine's If Only... series to a close, this was the way to do it. I Do is the third and final book in what has become a series that has put my heart through the wringer three times over. Duncan McAllister and Elaina Tripoli are about to tie the knot with a wedding in Greece, but it looks like they, along with Noah Keating and Jordan Brooks, Griffin Reed and Maggie Kendall, and Miles Parker and new addition Alex Karas are about to unravel as assumptions are made and secrets are kept, leading to our cast of characters forced to confront their fears and hang-ups when it comes to love, commitment, and their respective relationships.I adored how the love stories of the three couples fans of the series have grown familiar with have come full circle with this book. We've seen the ups and downs specifically that Noah and Jordan and Griffin and Maggie had to contend with in their respective stories, and Duncan and Elaina are definitely not immune from their own set of issues and insecurities. This book also shows that while we thought the first two couples got their happily-ever-afters in the first two books, life has gone on and hasn't been a bed of roses for either one. They still have their struggles and try to do their best when it comes to making their relationships work. It's a true reflection of real life because life does continue past that happily-ever-after.Miles was a revelation in this story because the last time we saw him, he was in a relationship with Paige, Maggie's neighbor. He was an amazing friend to Maggie and was more than supportive of her in the second book, and while I was surprised that his thing with Paige ended, I was thrilled that he got his own chance at happiness here and that it was with Alex definitely gets bonus points because I'm always one for diversity in all forms. With everything this book had to offer, my sadness at seeing the series come to an end is tapered off by the fact that I got more than I was expecting with this conclusion. I grinned, I giggled, and I fell in love with these characters all over again. Read the full series, people. Five-plus stars for I Do. ♥

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I can't find words to describe my love for this book By Marifer here aren't enough words for me to describe how much I freaking loved this book. It was so perfect, I cried and laughed and cried some more (but happy tears) and I'm just really in love with this book and AJ's wonderful characters. Is there anything better than happy endings? I used to think no, but A.J. has proved that there is, what happens after the happy ending makes for an amazing, entertaining, emotional story that I still can't get out of my head. This is the last book in a wonderful series, where we get to see 7 wonderful characters travel to Greece to attend one of the most terrifying but amazing events in adulthood, a wedding. This is the perfect book to show what happens after the happily ever after, when life is still happening to the characters, every single one of these characters learns something in this book, they all have an adventure that I felt solidified the fact that they aren't New Adults anymore, they are adults-adults, and that being and adult-adult is nothing like what we imagine it's going to be.One of my favourite things about A.J's books is that they always feel like my feelings got in a roller coaster and she starts twisting my emotions from the very first page until the last word, in I Do I got to revisit 3 of my favourite couples and reading about what they have been up to since they got their happy ending made me insanely happy. We get to see how they are starting to build their lives as actual adults and I have always been fascinated by that transition, that moment when you don't really have school to fall back on anymore and this book showed all the fears of that transition along with all the amazing emotions that come along with it.As any millennial, I am terrified of adulthood, but books like this make me not feel so terrified, it's amazing reading about how a happily ever after is something couples have to constantly work on, this book felt very real in that sense, because all of these wonderful couples are facing real life challenges, they are growing up and because of that their relationships are inevitably going to change, but the fact that they want to keep working on them, the fact that they want to love each other through it all, I think that's what makes a real love story fascinating, it's not the fact that we all just assume they characters get their happy ending and that's that, it's the fact that you know that not matter what life (or the author) throws at them, they will stay together because they have developed into characters who if they were people in real life, would know that love takes hard work.I'm going to miss these characters immensely, but I know for a fact that wherever it is fictional characters go to keep on living their happily ever after, Maggie, Griffin, Noah, Jordan, Duncan, Elaina, Miles and Alex are happily settled.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great! By mandy This was such a sweet book! Told in 7 different POV's, each character has a connected story. I did not read the first book in this series but I read the second (and loved it) but I did not feel lost at all while reading this - it can totally be read as a standalone. Still, I would suggest What I really enjoyed about this book was that it wasn't something filled with a bunch of silly drama or couples breaking up. Most of the couples were already established but had things pop up in their relationships that they have to work through, I loved that this wasn't angsty, just a cute, sweet romance. I loved all the couples in this book and I loved the epilogue. I think the characters all getting their own POV made this a really fast-paced book. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by this author!

Excerpt from Varied TypesObjection is often raised against realistic biography because it reveals so much that is important and even sacred about a man's life. The real objection to it will rather be found in the fact that it reveals about a man the precise points which are unimportant. It reveals and asserts and insists on exactly those things in a man's life of which the man himself is wholly unconscious; his exact class in society, the circumstances of his ancestry, the place of his present location. These are things which do not, properly speaking, ever arise before the human vision. They do not occur to a man's mind; it may be said, with almost equal truth, that they do not occur in a man's life.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Skinner One thing this prescient book achieves--and possibly the reason Chesterton wrote it--is to show just how varied such types can be. Our own time, (and he must have foreseen it) for all it's electronic wizardry and lightening communication, is devoid of much true diversity of personality, talent and perspective. The infantile nature of modern political debate is a perfect example. Really, there is no debate at all, just cartoonish demonizing of one's opponent. Nor is there any particular yearning for fundamental truth. Say what you will about the likes of Stevenson, Tolstoy or Savonarola (my favorite) they were originals and, in the case of the latter, prepared to die for their beliefs. Today, our crusaders are merely looking for face time which will allow them to angle their way into a lucrative career. They speak boldly and then retire to Georgetown watering holes to clang glasses with "members from across the aisle." Or they yup it up at parties attended by other "names" regardless of what those names profess. "It's all good" is their motto. But Chesterton manages to draw some quick sketches of personalities with real flavor and who said it's not at all good and it ought to be better--personalities who, in today's world, would probably be exiled to oblivion for reasons of mouth feel. He was able to do this because Western society hadn't become completely therapeutic and (which is to say roughly the same thing) chickafied. I'll take Sir Walter Scott over Camille Paglia, any day!

Excerpt from Imaginary ObligationsI presume it will not be denied that the Anglo Saxon conscience is apt to encroach on the zone of moral indifference. We are a hortatory people, forever laying down the law in a region where diversity is most desirable. Apparently we would rather teach than live; we count votes even in our dreams; and we suppress nine-tenths of our thoughts for fear of seeming incorrect. We are sometimes frank in private, but coram populo our souls are not our own. In proof whereof see any magazine or newspaper or almost any current book or play, and mark especially the amazing difference between public speeches and private thoughts.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. I eventually had a copy sent from a library 2000 miles away and when it arrived, despite having been printed around 1915, the pages were still uncut.I guess this means that it's not a well-read book.Having said all that, Imaginary Obligations is a time capsule. It is a collection of essays on whatever subjects interested the author and the public at the beginning of the twentieth century. In terms of both tone and content it is patchy. Some pieces seem terribly dated and some positively trapped in amber, while others express attitudes as fresh and enlightened as if they were penned yesterday. While Mr Colby was not an essayist of the stature of Mencken or Twain, he is nonetheless worth reading, even if only from a historical perspective: To see what op-ed pieces looked like back then is, I think, worth the read.

By Natasha is a Book Junkie “We are a question that hasn’t been answered yet, a hiding place that hasn’t been found yet, a battle that hasn’t been fought yet.”Holy cow! What a spectacular book this was! Gripping and unexpected, this story literally took my breath away, and I not only found myself reading until dawn, but also incapable of moving on and picking up another book for days to come. Within an exhilarating scenario that is as unique as it is astounding, I never expected to find so many surprises, so many twists and turns at every corner, and I felt like I was on a joyride of a lifetime. But fear not because I will not spoil any of it for you, as each small discovery, each staggering revelation, each ‘sucker punch’ in the story has made this one of the most riveting, compelling, and truly unforgettable reads of my life. Not to mention, one of the most divinely written ones too.“This was a murder-turned-into-abduction. This was a screwed-up moment of weakness. This was a personal, targeted attack against my father.”There is no slow introduction into the storyline, no gradual easing into it for the reader—the story takes off ‘mid race’, as we find the heroine with a gun pointed at her head, abducted and facing death at the hands of a man she doesn’t know. Skye Sedgewick has lived a privileged life since birth, her only living parent showering her with love and attention, and never making her want for anything. And yet, at the mercy of her captor, powerless and facing imminent death, her mind draws comfort from recalling a time when she was just a child, when the sound of her nanny’s lullaby could erase all hurts, when her childhood best friend’s intrepid heart made her feel safe and protected, and when all it took to put a smile on her face was a pink-frosted cake and a paper giraffe. But even those happy memories do little to dissolve the utter gloom of her reality—held hostage on a boat by a man who shows her no compassion or empathy, whose mind games and bouts of cruelty slowly strip her of all hope and dignity, while they sail towards an unknown destination and an uncertain fate for Skye.“I felt like all the bits that held me together were slowly coming unglued, falling off, piece by piece. I was disappearing, disintegrating like the rocks that get eaten by the sea.”But as their journey continues, an unexpected attachment forms between captor and captive, and the more Skye’s childhood memories keep returning and offsetting her harsh reality, the more of the truth behind her abduction is revealed. Until the past and the present suddenly collide and our heroine and her captor, Damian, find themselves torn between what has been and all that their hearts tell them should be.“There are no good guys or bad guys. Everyone has a reason.”And that is when this story takes off on an unforeseen adventure of soul-searching, friendship, redemption and survival, an adventure where love is the ultimate prize and the past is the bitterest foe. As Skye and Damian succumb to their feelings, recognising a love that was written in the stars for them, they soon realise that that very love is the only thing holding vengeance back by a thread, a thread that can snap at any moment, and take it all away from them in one sweep.“… there is no space too dark or too vast or too irredeemable that can’t be filled with love.”There is so much more I could tell you about this story as I find myself here bursting to talk about it, but I have to remain vague so that you can discover and truly appreciate every facet of this beautiful tale the same way as I did—slowly and without warning. I will tell you, though, that no amount of imagination could have prepared me for any jaw-dropping moment of this passionate, thrilling, at times even gritty story of two people who have come full circle in life, only to find themselves torn between all they have gained and all they have lost.“You can either choose love or you can choose hate, because where one lives, the other will die.”I feel no amount of praise will ever do a book of this calibre justice. With its exquisite prose, almost poetic at times, the phenomenally framed characters, vulnerable and strong at the same time, the passionate, turbulent love story that pulls on every one of our heartstrings like a fine concerto, the richness of a storyline that is never predictable and consistently enthralling, this is a book I wish I could make everyone read. Because books like these are few and far between, and are nothing less than life-changing.“It’s not over, you know, it never has been … you will always be my forever.”[6 STARS]

The blurb alone is perfect, drawing you in without really revealing what you can expect from the pages within. Brilliant in it’s simplicity, as The Paper Swan is more than can be summed up by a few scant paragraphs on the back of a book. The Paper Swan really hits the ground running, dropping the reader right in the middle of the action, getting right to the “meat” of the story. Everything is perfectly laid out from there, the story developing in a unique and powerful way. This book is going to take you on a journey you could never really prepare for. This book is tense, dangerous, heartbreaking, a story of rage and vengeance. At the same time, The Paper Swan is full of hope, overwhelming love, and a simple kind of joy. Leylah Attar manages to make us feel all of that and more, giving us a truly multi-faceted story, layered with the past and the present, showing the reader the huge effects one small action can have. A story about creating a new life out of the ashes of your old one. With deep, explicit characterization, you can’t help but to love and/or loathe the cast of The Paper Swan. None of these people are who they seem at first, and watching them grow and develop, spilling secrets and sharing dreams, was a high point for me in this book. Leylah was able to get me to justify actions that I would normally consider abhorrent, and I loved that she was able to twist my mind in that way. These characters are going to become a part of your heart, and you’ll be thinking about them long after you finish this book. The imagery in this this book truly brought this story to life. We’re not just reading this book, we are able to experience this story along with the characters, rather than just reading about a series of events. I could taste the food, hear the music, and feel the pain, the love, the longing, the devastation. The Paper Swan is more than mere words strung together to form sentences which turn into paragraphs that cover a page. No, these words are laid together perfectly, end to end, like pearls on a string, twisting and turning in violently elegant ways. Trust me when I tell you that this is a story you won’t soon forget.

I read all the hype about this book from Aestas and Co. and decided to 1 - click it.The writing is very good and extremely solid. In fact, it's much better than some of the books I have LOVED in the past. However, the kidnapping trope ruined it for me. Again, a young woman finds herself abducted by some crazed Mexican (Tears of Tess, Shooting Scars, The Bargain) who has a reason (revenge, human trafficking) and there are some very unpleasant situations the heroine faces but some how or another, she develops some kind of deranged, Stockholm Syndrome love for her captor. Not to take away or compare this book to others (as I have just done), the writing is absolutely brilliant. Some of the most beautiful prose in fiction today can be found in this book but it doesn't take away from the fact that this yet another twisted relationship between the abductor and the abducted that has been turned into some kind of Gone With The Wind, can't-live-without-you, so-crazy-I-am-psychotically-in-love-with-you love story. I just don't buy it, not after what Damien did to her while she was in his captivity.I will try to keep this as spoiler free as possible. I didn't get anything out of Skye as a character. She was the blank space of heroines. Damien had more gumption, depth, depravity and passion in one pinky finger than she did in her whole body. I suppose this also took away from my enjoyment of the story. Skye was reduced to the information we would find on her Driver's License. She was a poor little rich girl -- blonde of course -- who turned into a poor little rich young woman with the personality of a cream-colored cashmere sweater. There didn't seem to be any real fight or passion in her. As the story progressed, her whole reason for being, and existing in the novel, seemed to be Damien. I realize why but it would seem like what he put her through would have made her stronger and much more determined. Perhaps if she gained a backbone, her likability factor would have gone up and this would have easily been a solid 4 star book in my opinion. All criticism aside it was entertaining enough that I finished the book, would never return it for a refund and it was read in a matter of days. The prose and depth of Ms. Attar's writing has made her an author I would gladly read again. I don't see myself revisiting The Paper Swan though once I retire it to my Amazon cloud account.

In this common sense heart-felt book, the author, a self-defined "love blind" dad and education attorney who worked with hundreds of socially challenged students and young adults, shares how heaping unearned abundance with little or no contribution or accountability from his children caused them dire, even fatal, consequences as adults. His revelations are insightful, brutally honest, and instructional to parents who come face to face with their own self-destructive children. A "must" read in this day when children and young adults more and more feel entitled to just about everything.

This is the last book in this series by Misha Carver and I enjoyed it as much as the first and second. Jason proposes to Jerrica and she says yes, but of course it can't be smooth sailing just as books one and two had their bumps in the road. Turns out Jerrica has kept secrets too. Will Jason forgive her as easily? Read their final story to find out.

Everything i loved about her in the previous books, started to wear thin as she started being an unrealistic brat. Although Jason told some lies his heart was in the right place. Some of the book I found tiresome because of Jerrica. But all in all a delightful read as a whole set.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. Julius Ravensdale knew his housekeeper was up to something as soon as she brought in his favourite dessert. 'Queen's pudding?' He raised one of his brows. 'I never have dessert at lunch unless it's a special occasion.''It is a special occasion,' Sophia said as she put the meringue-topped dessert in front of him.He narrowed his gaze. 'Okay, tell me. What's going on?'Sophia's expression was sheepish. 'I'm bringing in a girl to help me run the house. It's only for a month until this wretched tendonitis settles. The extra pair of hands will be so helpful and I'll be doing my bit for society. It's a win-win.'Julius glanced at the wrist brace Sophia had been wearing for the past couple of weeks. He knew she worked far too hard and could do with the extra help but he liked to keep the staff numbers down in the villa. Not because he was mean about paying them. He would pay them triple to stay away and let him get on with his work. 'Who is it?''Just a girl who's in need of a bit of direction.' Julius mentally rolled his eyes. Of all the housekeepers he could have chosen, he had employed the Argentinian reincarnation of Mother Teresa. 'I thought we agreed your lame ducks were restricted to the stables or the gardens?''I know, but this girl will go to prison if—' 'Prison?' he said. 'You're bringing a convicted criminal here?''She's only been in trouble a couple of times,' Sophia said. 'Anyway, maybe the guy deserved it.''What did she do to him?''She keyed his brand-new sports car.'Julius's gut clenched at the thought of his showroom-perfect Aston Martin housed in the garage. 'I suppose she said it was an accident?''No, she admitted to it,' Sophia said. 'She was proud of it. That and the message she sprayed on his lawn with weed killer.''She sounds delightful.''So you'll agree to have her?'Julius took in his housekeeper's hopeful expression. His sarcasm was lost on her. Sophia was the most charitable person he knew. Always doing things for others. Always looking for a way to make a difference in someone's life. He knew she was lonely since both her adult children had moved abroad for work. What would it hurt to indulge her just this once? He would be busy with fine-tuning his space software. He had less than a month to iron out the kinks in the programming before he presented it to the research team for funding approval. He let out a long breath. 'I don't suppose you've ever thought of taking up knitting or cross-stitch instead?'Sophia beamed at him. 'Just wait until you meet her. You're going to love her.'* * *Holly considered making a run for it when the van stopped but the size of the villa and its surrounds made her pause. It was big. Way big. Massive. It probably had its own area code. Maybe its own political party. It was four storeys high, built in a neo-classical style with spectacular gardens and lush, rolling fields fringed by thick forest. It didn't look anything like the detention centre she'd envisaged. There was no twelve-foot-high fence with electrified barbed wire at the top. There was no surveillance tower and no uniformed, rifle-toting guards—or, at least, none she could see—casing the joint. It looked like a topend hotel—a luxurious and very private resort for the rich and famous. Which kind of made her wonder why she'd been sent here. Not that she'd been expecting chains and bread and water or anything, but still. This was seriously over the top.'It's only for a month,' Natalia Varela, her caseworker, said as the decorative wrought-iron gates opened electronically, allowing them access to the long, sweeping limestone driveway leading to the immaculately maintained villa. 'You got off lightly considering your rap sheet. I know a few people who'd happily swap places with you.'Holly grunted. Folded her arms across her breasts. Crossed her right leg over her left. Jerked her ankle up and down. Pouted. Why should she look happy? Why should she act grateful that she was being sent to live with some man she'd never heard of in his big, old fancy villa?A month.Thirty-one days of living with some stranger who had magnanimously volunteered to 'reform' her. Ha-ha. Like that was going to work. Who was this guy anyway? All she'd been told was he was some hotshot techie nerd from England who had made the big time in Argentina designing software for space telescopes used in the Atacama Desert in neighbouring Chile. Oh, and he was apparently single. Holly rolled her eyes. He'd agreed to take on a troubled young woman for altruistic reasons? And the correctional authorities had actually fallen for that?Yeah, right. She knew all about men and their dodgy motivations. After being given the all clear from the security intercom device, Natalia drove through the gates before they whispered shut behind the car. 'Julius Ravensdale is doing you a big favour,' she said. 'He's only agreed to this—and very reluctantly at that—because his housekeeper has tendonitis in her wrist. You'll be her right-hand helper. It's an amazing opportunity. This place is like a five-star resort. It'll be great vocational training for you. I hope you'll make the most of it.'Vocational training for what? Holly thought with a cynical curl of her lip. No one was going to make a housekeeper out of her just because she'd made a few mistakes, which weren't even really mistakes, because her pond-scum stepfather had seriously had it coming to him. It was just a dumb old sports car, for pity's sake. So what if he had to have it re-sprayed and his precious lawn re-sown after the weedkiller incident?Holly was not going to be some rich man's lowly slave scrubbing floors until her knees grew callouses as big as cabbages. Her days of being pushed around were long over. Julius Ravens-whatever-his-name-was would be in for a big shock if he thought he could exploit her to suit his nefarious needs. What if it wasn't the kitchen he planned to have her slaving in? What if he had more salacious plans? In her experience, men with money thought they could have anything and anyone they wanted. All that nonsense about him 'reluctantly' agreeing to take her on was just a ruse. Of course he would say that. He wouldn't want to look too eager to take in a prison statistic waiting to happen. He would be 'doing his bit for society' by trying to do her.Bring it on, she thought. Let's see how far you get.'Oh, I'll make the most of it, all right,' Holly said as she sent the caseworker a guileless smile. 'You can be sure of that.'Natalia let out a world-weary sigh as she put her foot back on the accelerator. 'Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.'The housekeeper whom she had met a few days before greeted Holly at the door of the villa while Natalia took an urgent call from one of her other charges.'It's lovely to have you here, Holly,' Sophia said. 'Come in. Señor Ravensdale is busy just now so I'll show you to your suite so you can settle in.'Holly wasn't expecting a welcoming committee with banners and balloons and a brass band or anything but surely the very least her host could do was make an appearance? If he'd agreed to have her here then he could at least do the polite thing and greet her face to face. 'Where is he?' she asked.'He's not to be disturbed,' Sofia said. 'I'll show you to the suite I've pre—''Disturb him, please,' Holly said. 'Now.'Sophia looked a little taken aback. 'He doesn't like to be interrupted while he's working. He doesn't allow anyone into his office unless it's an emergency.'Holly gently elbowed her way past to the door she took to be the study. It was the only door that was closed along the long, wide corridor. She didn't knock. She turned the handle and barged in.A man looked up from behind a desk where he was tapping at a computer keyboard. His fingers stalled as she came in, the last click echoing in the silence as his gaze met with hers.Holly drew in a breath to speak but for some reason her voice wasn't on active duty. It had locked behind her shock at how different he was from her expectations. He was nothing like she had envisaged. He wasn't old or even middle-aged. He was in his early thirties and movie-star handsome, athletically lean and tanned. His hair was a rich dark brown with light waves running through it. It looked as if it had been recently styled with his fingers, for she could see the roughly spaced plough marks that gave him a sexily tousled look, as if he'd just tumbled out of bed after vigorous sex. He had a determined looking jaw, a straight nose and a firm but sensually sculptured mouth that for some reason made the ligaments at the backs of her knees weaken alarmingly. He pushed back his chair, and the room instantly shrank as he stood. 'Can I help you?' he said with the sort of tone that suggested he was not in the least motivated to do so.Holly had never been one to beat about the bush. Her tactic was to get in there with a verbal weed-whacker. 'Don't you know it's impolite to ignore your guests when they arrive?'His eyes held hers with steely focus. 'Strictly speaking, you're not my guest. You're Sophia's.'Holly hitched up her chin, flashing him an I-know-what-you're-up-to glare. 'I want to let you know straight from the outset I'm not here to be your sex toy.'His dark brows rose in twin arcs over his impossibly dark blue eyes. With his black hair and olive-skinned complexion, she had been expecting them to be brown. But they were an astonishing sapphire-blue fringed with thick black lashes. He seemed to measure her for a moment; his gaze taking in the tiny diamond nose piercing and the pink streaks in her hair with a tilt of his mouth that was unmistakably mocking.A knot of bitterness inside Holly tightened. If there was one thing she loathed, it was being made fun of.Belittled. Mocked.'How do you do, Miss, er…?' He glanced at his housekeeper, who had come in behind Holly, for a prompt.'Miss Perez,' Sophia said. 'Hollyanne.''Holly,' Holly said with a black look.Julius offered his hand. 'How do you do, Holly?'She glared at his hand as if he'd just offered her a viper. 'Keep your hands to yourself.'Natalia entered his office sounding a little flustered. 'I'm terribly sorry, Dr Ravensdale, but I had to take an urgent call about another client—'Holly swung around and frowned at Natalia. 'Doctor? You didn't tell me he was a doctor. You said he was a computer geek.'The caseworker gave Julius a pained smile before addressing Holly. 'Dr Ravensdale has a PhD in astrophysics. It's polite to call him by his correct title, if that's what he prefers.'Holly swung back to look at Julius. 'What do you want me to call you? Sir? Master? Oh Mighty Learned One? Your Royal Tightness?'His lips twitched as if he was fighting back a reluctant smile. 'Julius will be fine.''As in Caesar?''As it turns out, yes.''You're into Shakespeare?' Holly said it as if it was a noxious disease from which she had so far managed to escape contamination. No point letting him think she was anything but what he had already judged her as: uneducated and unsophisticated. Trailer trash.'No, but my parents are.''Why'd you agree to have me here?' she said, eye-balling him.'I didn't want you here,' he said. 'But my current domestic circumstances made it impossible for me to refuse.'Holly folded her arms across her chest. 'I can't cook,' she said with an obdurate 'so what are you going to do about that?' look.'I'm sure you can learn.''And I hate housework,' she said. 'It's sexist expecting women to clean up after you. Just because I've got boobs and ovaries doesn't mean I—''Point taken,' he said quickly. So quickly Holly wondered if he was worried she was going to list all of her feminine assets. 'However, you need to do your stint of community service,' he continued. 'I need some help around the house until Sophia gets better. It's win-win.'Holly made a harrumphing noise and unwound her locked arms, turning her gaze to the caseworker. 'Have you done a police check on him to make sure he's the real deal?''I can assure you, Holly, Dr Ravensdale is a totally trustworthy guardian,' the caseworker said.Holly pushed her bottom lip out like a drawer as she swung back to size Julius up. 'Do you drink?''Socially.''Smoke?' 'No.' 'Drugs?' 'No.'Holly upped her brazenness another notch. 'Sex?''Holly…' the caseworker began.'What?' Holly asked with a petulant scowl.'You're embarrassing Dr Ravensdale.''I'm not embarrassed,' Julius said. 'But I'm also not going to answer such an impertinent question.'Holly coughed out a laugh. 'Which means you're not getting any, right?'He stared her down with a look that made her insides feel wobbly. He didn't look the type of man to go too long between drinks. He looked the type of man who could take his pick of women. She could feel his sensual allure like a force field. Her mind ran wild with images of him getting down to business. He wouldn't be one for a quick, sleazy grope. He would take his time. He would know his way around a woman's body. He would know how to send female senses spinning into the stratosphere. She could see it in the darkly confident glint of his gaze. 'While we're on the topic,' he said, 'I would appreciate it if you would abstain from bringing men here for the purpose of having intimate relations with them.''So…you get to have sex but I don't? That is…' Holly dropped her voice to a deliberately husky purr '…unless we have it with each other?''I have to get going,' the caseworker said as her phone buzzed with an incoming message. 'Holly, I hope you'll behave yourself while you're here. This is your last chance, don't forget. If this fails you know where you'll be going.''Yeah, yeah, yeah,' Holly said with a bored flicker of her eyelids as she turned to look at the view from one of the windows next to a wall of bookshelves. She didn't want to go to prison but neither did she want to be exploited by yet another man who assumed he had some sort of power over her. If Julius Ravensdale wanted a plaything, why hadn't he cut one from the herd? The herd he belonged to—the 'beautiful people' herd. She wasn't even his type. How could she be, with her cheap chain-store clothes? Not to mention her background. The background she was still trying to escape. It clung to her like thick axle grease. No amount of washing and cleansing and sanitising would remove it.Julius Ravensdale came from money. She could see it in the way he dressed, in the way he held himself with supreme confidence, with cool and collected authority. She could see it in the furnishings he surrounded himself with: the priceless paintings, the books and the hand-woven floor coverings. He hadn't lived his childhood in sweat-soaked fear. He hadn't had to fight for survival. He'd had everything handed to him on a gilt-edged platter. Why was he agreeing to have her here if not to make use of her? She clenched her back teeth in determination. He would not use her.She would use him first.

Fabulous Story By Mrs. Helen Sibbritt I have never been disappointed with any of MS Milburne's stories and this one delivers a fast paced sensual story of two people from opposite sides of the track who have a rocky road to such a beautiful HEA.Julius Ravensdale leads a quiet life working in astrophysics his parents are famous actors but he prefers to stay out of the limelight he likes his life organized and calm so when his housekeeper convinces him to take in a young woman who has one last chance to sort her life out before she may end up in prison he reluctantly says yes never realizing that this young woman will turn his life upside down and change his life forever.Holly Perez has had a rotten childhood but she covers it well she is feisty and arrives at the Villa full of bravado she is determined not be used and to show Julius who has the stronger will power and puts on a brave front but she is rather taken with the gorgeous man who is to be her guardian for one month.Julius is hard pressed to keep control of himself around the beautiful Holly he sees through her wall of bravado and she sees a lot in Julius as well and when they are left alone for a few days they cannot help but fall into each others arms but Holly finds it hard to believe that anyone can love her and when they are thrown into the spotlight Julius is determined to protect Holly and this will make you smile. This is a beautifully written story the characters are rich and come to life on the pages and I am very much looking forward to more of The Ravensdale family do yourself a favour and don't miss this one.
