Would anything change if women ruled the world? In a devastated country, those in charge rule by fear, inequality, and oppression. Rhia, a strong and independent sea captain, just wants to keep her head down and do her job, until she finds herself trapped in a re-education facility designed to help people fit into the rules of the New Way Forward. The warden claims to be guiding those in her care, but Rhia quickly sees the cracks in the system. As she is faced with torture and brainwashing, those cracks become gaping holes that threaten to pull her down into the depths of despair. Can Rhia resist the slow subversion of re-education and become the reluctant hero the new world needs?  RUN Ragged is the thrilling second story by the award-winning author of Women's Work. This brilliantly imagined novel is both a scathing satire and a profoundly poignant look at the price we are willing to pay for peace and what we are willing to ignore to keep our conscience clear.

RUN Ragged, by Kari Aguila

Review "Aguila's well crafted dystopian world serves as an upside-down mirror of today's political issues. Suspenseful, disturbing, yet hard to put down, RUN Ragged... points a spotlight at the pitfalls of our world today." -Maren Higbee, author of Lana Fray and the Grand Plan "...A harrowing examination of the swinging pendulum of gender oppression... poses (questions) that invite contemplation long after the book is over. A strong storyline, complex characters, and chilling exploration of the politics of power make this a gripping read." -Petula Parker, author of Kate's Escape from the Billable Hour

From the Inside Flap "Heat rippled above the deck, bending the light into waves and distorting the docks and cranes that jutted out from the distant shore. Rhia squinted through the glare and gently tugged on the wheel, guiding the Elizabeth Maru, her thirty-two-foot gillnetter, toward the regional trade. She wiped a drip of sweat from her temple with the shoulder of her faded T-shirt and leaned forward in the patched leather captain's chair. The old springs groaned. Her left knee bounced up and down, a subconscious tell of the nervousness that accompanied each of her biweekly trips to Piper Point. She was close now. ...  "I'm saying women and men should have worked together," William said. "I'm saying you can't rule this country and call it equality when half the people don't have a voice. And I'm saying you are just as guilty as the rest of them, because for the last thirteen months, people like you knew I was in here, and did nothing to stop it."  "I want to stop it! That's what I'm trying to figure out! I want to help you, but I don't know how."  William shook his head again. "No, you just want to get yourself out. You'll get out and you won't look back."  "That's not true."  "Everybody says that, but when you get out, you won't want to make waves and risk getting sent back here. You'll keep your head down and forget about us." ... Captain Banks leaned on the rail of her guard tower, high above the dozens of inmates making their way back to their cells and boxes. She'd been there most of the afternoon, keeping watch over the women and men below. She'd seen Rhia seek out William, hours before. She'd watched as they moved from box to box together throughout the afternoon. She'd noticed how close they stood, how they smiled and talked as they worked, the way they touched each other. She'd noticed. And she didn't like it."

Women's Work is empowering and exhilarating. (It) challenges gender as we know it: a truly ambitious and largely indicative text of past and present theory and preoccupations. A commendable book, a timely perspective and critique on the thriving human condition and state of gender affairs and women's rights world-wide. Kari Aguila is a pioneer for crafting such an overdue and particularly necessary contribution for readers everywhere. -The San Francisco Book Review  Kari Aguila didn't even miss a beat. Women's Work is almost immediately engaging, with a story that moves at a clip. It's easily readable while at the same time raising questions and issues that are bound to linger with the reader well after the book's final period. -Beth Colvin, The Baton Rouge Advocate  5 Stars! Winner of the IndieReader Approval! The climactic ending involves a plot twist where the beliefs of the new order are questioned and the neighborhood comes to grips with the tenuous relationship between safety and violence. WOMEN'S WORK is a well-written book with a moving story inhabited by believable characters. The emotions are genuine and the reactions to the social upheaval around them, while sometimes surprising, add even more credence to the story line. If the purpose of WOMEN'S WORK is to make a reader think, Aguila has achieved this. -Ed Bennett, IndieReader

Now a runner for several communities she carries their goods to port in exchange for what they need. The madame President is shouting her propaganda, that things are flourishing and all is right with the world. And for the most part Rhia agrees, but the things she doesn't agree on could get her in trouble. Sent her away at the very least.Rhia is caught with a man and woman, who were helping her after she washed up on the shore. A night of storms, left her boat in the sea, while she landed on the shore. They are caught and sent to The Center for their betterment. But is it really better? They are held like prisoners and forced to comply or be punished. There were rumors about bad things happening to men, but they were just rumors, right? Now Rhia is seeing it first hand. She is witness to it and bares some of it. Her only hope is escape. But can she make it? Will she be able to save herself and her few friends? This is a well written book, that captures you from the beginning. We met Rhia in Women's Work. Now this is her story. How she survives and how she see's the new world. The changes women have made. Corrupt just like men. But can anything be done? Only time will tell.

You should definitely pick this one up By s2015 Huge kudos to the author for taking on tough subjects with an unusual perspective and in an engaging way. From my perspective, this book was a step forward for the author - tighter, cleaner and more accessible writing, while maintaining the intriguing premise initiated in the first book and providing thought-provoking suspense. I loved that "Run Ragged" stands on its own with a strong and individual protagonist, but still ties up enough loose ends from the first book (in a realistic and not overly sappy manner) to be satisfying, and to solidify it's position in the world the author is creating, which brings to mind "The Handmaids Tale" and "1984". I loved how the story was sprung from the perspective of a different protagonist than the first, and several years after the timeline of the first book (not necessarily picking up directly where the last left off). I hope to see more from this author in the future, and I will be interested to see if she chooses to do this by following Rhia's storyline, or by branching off on a tangent with Laura, as it seems she might be setting up to do. This is definitely worth a read.

Run Ragged takes us further into the New Way Forward and provides more insight into previously unanswered questions about the Gr By Judith A Gregoire Aguilia has done it again with another suspenseful page-turner. Run Ragged takes us further into the New Way Forward and provides more insight into previously unanswered questions about the Great War, the new laws that followed and the exchange of power from men to women. Just like the original Women’s Work that gave us our first glimpse into this dystopian world, characters are developed to a point of feeling at one with their world and their struggles. The plot line is more consistent throughout the entire book, without any lulls in the action or lulls in continuing to discover the world Aguilia has created. I couldn’t put it down and thoroughly enjoyed Run Ragged.

When I received it I thought....well the book cover is poorly done. Certainly not what a lecturer of painting at the Royal Academy in 1904 would prescribe for his book. It is a glossy yellow cover with an island of white in which the title is floated and a little clip art rose added..... O.K. so I don't get it let's move on. The pages are rather thin and the text is a digital copy of what looks like an old dot type printer from the early eighties. Alright its actually a photocopy of a 1980's era reprinting used library book... I found it legible if dark except for the images which are useless and the last page was irritatingly left out...really. The pencil markings from library book along with some torn pages and haphazardly aligned pages indicate that this is the very same copy made available online by someone out of California that I had previously downloaded. I expected a simple cloth hardcover for the just shy of $30. Nope. I would not be surprised if it is ACTUALLY MY download somehow fed into the printers server with the last page deliberately left out by the publisher just to be "cute". I expected a perfect reprint of the original publication and not an imperfect version of my own download from an archivist site. It follows that I am disappointed....Instead of the hard cover book to go on my book shelf in my permanent collection I have a reminder of being ripped off by Kessinger Publishing.. In my book I include a copy of this review and a copy of the last page and plan to wrap it in a cloth cover. Now for the writing. Excellent stuff, highly recommended reading for serious contemporary artists. Clausen was a very accomplished and influential painter of international acclaim in his time and we are lucky that he wrote anything about painting at all. He points out serious and obvious shortcomings of Impressionism that are usually and strangely not brought to light. Clausen answers very important questions for the professional level painter and does so in a forthright manner being clearly confessional of his prejudices and limitations. I like this guy! I intend to also read Sir George Clausens' other book regarding objectives and ideals in art but I will simply get it bound myself at Kinko's or contact a good printer and specify a tasteful treatment. The publisher is Kessinger Publishing. I highly recommend the reading but have it bound by anyone other.

At some point in our lives, we all experience grief: the death of a loved one, a financial catastrophe, a debilitating illness, or the ending of a marriage. In the dark moments that follow these losses, life can seem hopeless and unbearable.

Author Therese Tappouni knows this journey all too well.

After suffering the devastating loss of her eleven-year-old son, she ultimately came to the realization that it is possible to not only heal from grief, but to find gifts from the deepest places of despair.

The Gifts of Grief: Finding the Light in the Darkness of Loss explores the grieving process and examines new ways to heal from the inside out. Couched in Tappouni's warm and comforting prose, and steeped in examples from her own experiences with deep loss, Therese is able to walk the reader through the grieving process, while keeping in mind that the journey will be different for every person.

Complete with guided audio mediations and journaling exercises, The Gifts of Grief offers a compassionate path from loss and emptiness into wholeness, teaching not only how to survive grief, but also adapt and evolve new blessings from it as well.

A life-transforming guide through loss and grief By Elaine Mansfield Therese Tappouni's book "The Gifts of Grief: Finding light in the darkness of loss" gives spiritual and psychological guidance for those seeking a life-affirming path through grief. It is also a rich resource for those who work in bereavement support. As a hospice bereavement group facilitator and a woman whose husband died of cancer, I stand with a foot in both camps. The book interweaves moving personal stories about the heart-breaking accidental death of Tappouni's young son, the trauma of divorce, and her shaken faith with self-paced exercises and heart-opening meditations that help the reader understand loss as an opportunity for spiritual transformation. She teaches us that our human struggles provide possibilities for contact with our deepest selves and can lead to creation of rich and full new lives. For Tappouni, grief is a sacred initiation, opening us to compassion and empathy for ourselves and others, revealing our deepest strengths, and teaching us the sacredness of the human journey. Her book provides a safe vessel for whatever we discover on our journey, the difficult emotions as well as the uplifting insights. In reading this book, I feel Tappouni's personal conviction and compassionate support. Her easily available audio MP3 download strengthens the sense that she standing with me on my journey. The book is laid out beautifully with essential highlighted quotes. I find these quotes useful as affirmations as I work through the inevitable losses of life. For example, "To walk through grief is a heroic journey. No other challenge in life approaches it." Or "Your grief has opened a portal, a place where you can access more than healing." I'll end with this: "Creating a new life from the pieces of your old one is a priceless gift of grief."

Showing gratitude and compassion, the need for silence...these were all things I, too, developed through grieving. This would have been an excellent book for me to read in that first year after my husband's death, but I think it would be helpful to those who are in any phase of their grief journey. This book would also be a wonderful resource for a grief counselor or therapist.

She goes back to only inform him that she's pregnant and planned on going her own way. But a medical emergency makes her stay with him for the next few months. Hero wrestles with trying to convince her to stay & raise their kids with him as well as his devotion to his deceased wife of 5 years. The writing bored me so I started skimming pages before I reached half of this Wood book. There were too many details about Hero, heroine, Hero's siblings, his business, and her career crammed in a HP (Harlequin Presents). It lacked emotionality and left me indifferent to Hero and heroine and their future. Hero's big secret re: his deceased wife didn't even make me curious.** At least the sex scenes were not superfluous or as plentiful as the other more current HPs. In any case, the slow pace plus too much background info in this book lost me.Minimally recommended.**SPOILERS for this book is on my other review …movesme.blogspot.com/2015/11/one-night-two-consequences-joss-wood.html

That didn't happen when Remy had all day sickness due to the pregnancy. She was a very independent person. At times I found it to be annoying. Instead of saying thank you to Bo for his help, she fought with him. He had his own issues. He never got over the death of his first wife. The more time Remy spent with Bo, the more she fell in love with him. That was not suppose to be part of the plan. She felt like she was competing against a ghost. Can Bo ever let go of the past, and take a chance on a future?I didn't like this book like I had hoped I would. The story didn't hold my attention. I did finish it. The plot, and characters didn't pull me into the story line. Not sure why, it just wasn't one of my favorite books.

Brit-speak By Patrasnana This story is really quite good, the H and h definitely have chemistry and you end up emotionally involved with the characters. My only complaint is that brit-speak enters into the story and it's annoying to me. It just stops the flow of the story while you remind yourself that yes, these are American characters. I would feel the same if reading a story set in England and American slang was suddenly inserted into the dialogue. Couldn't Harlequin edit stories to geographically be true to their surroundings? I really liked this book, just wish these glaring incidents didn't happen.

I really want to get a copy for myself seeing that it has a poster. This is the best book of the series, but I'm really sad that **Spoiler Alert** Gray Wing died at the end. Turtle Tail said it was his kits' destiny to only know him as a memory. Sounds ominus, eh? My eyes actually started watering, and I NEVER cry. Never. The last sentence hit me hardest- "I have traveled so far and loved so much, and yet I am still following the Sun Trail, heading for my new hunting grounds."I can't wait for The Apprentice's Quest to come out. The excerpt at the end was pretty cool, but ya know, it didn't really give away much. I saw on the wiki that the 2nd book of VOS is called The Lost Clan. //GASP Is SkyClan coming to the lake or something?

Say the words Army wife, and what often comes to mind is the image of a teary-eyed woman running to hug her returning combat soldier-husband or a caricature based on a slickly produced reality TV show. The Immortals is different. This stunning first novel full of emotion addresses the truth of the female predicament the unsung heroes who are left behind on the home front of war. We experience the love and challenges between husband and wife, we feel the closeness of mother and daughter, and we bond with the most unlikely of women. When we first meet Calli Coleman, a classically trained musician from a well-connected Baltimore family, it is the summer of 2005 and the United States has been at war in Iraq for two years. She has been uprooted from the hometown she adores and abruptly lands in the role of Army wife in provincial Sackets Harbor, New York outside of Fort Drum. Naïve to all things military, Calli has no idea what s in store for her when Luke s infantry unit deploys to the Iraq War to an area CNN dubs The Triangle of Death . Left back in New York with their three-year-old daughter Audrey, black Labrador Satchmo, and a fat cat named Charlemagne, Calli has a steep learning curve as she tumbles into a complicated social hierarchy where she finds her well-heeled childhood does her more harm than good.Desperately missing her friends and family and amid the impertinent Army wives, unlikely friendships evolve with Josie, Rachel, and Daphne. Seemingly as different from one another as can be, and certainly unlike her dynamic, jet-setting best friend Eula, these women will nonetheless come together for courage, support, and to embark upon the deeply emotional roller coaster ride of being an Army wife. With only letters and email as their communication, Calli knows very little about Luke s mission in Iraq. Through their letters we get a beautiful picture of their love for each other and what it means to serve our Nation but Luke cannot share much about the confidential assignment. The news on the radio and television is never good. Calli dreads the phone ringing to tell her of more soldiers being blown up by IEDs or killed by gunfire and she fears The Trifecta - the casualty assistance officer, rear-detachment office, and chaplain will be sitting in her driveway waiting to tell her the worst news she can imagine. In Luke s absence, Calli, alone with her daughter, learns that if anything is worth fighting for, it s the unpredictable new friendships that will sustain her through loneliness and the ever-present specter of widowhood. At the end Calli will find herself on an unexpected course full of epiphanies about herself and her marriage. The Immortals is an emotional examination of marriage, friendship, war, and death. Tori Eversmann, through her distinctive voice that comes from her own time as an Army wife, has given us an unforgettable story.

By Holly Golightly As an Army wife, I've been waiting for a powerful novel that embraces all the nuances of military life during a modern day deployment. Finally, we have a literary piece that opens up the kimono without bogging us down with mil-speak or self aggrandizing mean-girl one-upsmandship. Ms. Eversmann's dazzling debut novel handles the subject with deft language, strong plot, and colorful characters. Her protagonist, Calli, is a reluctant Army wife thrown into a den of uncertainty when her husband Luke is deployed to Iraq. Both military and civilian readers will be instantly engaged with the story which opens up in 2005 at the beginning stages of the Iraq war. She finds herself raising her daughter alone, forging unlikely friendships, and through her self-discovery, begins to let go of her preconceived notions about the Army. Even though the war is a central theme in the novel, anyone will identify with the characters - as they watch from the sidelines when men start to be injured or worse. Because Ms. Eversmann was an Army wife herself, its her insight into the lives of Army wives that gives the book its nuances. She has truly captured a snapshot of American history with her prose. I predict this book will be an enormous success and I look forward to reading more by this talented new player on the women's literature field.

By Amazon Customer Amazing book and I loved it and could relate to it even though I'm not even married. Definitely a fast read as well. Definitely add this book to your list even move it to the top of your list!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I loved this book By Shannon Cheston I loved this book! When the book ended, I found myself wanting to know more about the characters - what happens to them, how do they adapt and change further. I was so invested in them and that is when I know the characters of a book are well drawn. The sacrifice of army spouses is enormous and I can't thank enough our men and women who support their sons, daughters, husbands, and wives as they go off to protect our country and freedom. The Immortals gives us insight into what it is like to have a loved one off at war - the constant worry, the concern, missing them, and having to carry on. I looked at this book from multiple angles. We all have to look inward when our world is rocked. For the main character, it is her husband going off to a war zone. However, for countless women, it could be the loss of a child, spouse, or parent, or a gut-wrenching divorce....whatever it is that rocks you to your core, that makes you wonder who you are and where life is going, who are left behind to raise their children on their own, whose world isn't what they expected it to be.....they look for other people (often women) who have experienced the same thing. It is our sisterhood - our bond that helps us get through these dark times. I believe so wholeheartedly in women supporting (not tearing down) other women. Mrs. Eversmann writes so eloquently about how her main character is supported by some surprisingly amazing women - women that would not normally have been friends -but through their experiences, they are each other's lifeline. On another note - I think it is so important for our generation to write down the history as it happens, since electronic communication may make it challenging for later generations to learn about what happened today. Mrs. Eversmann shows how important this written communication is for our future generations. Great book - a fast read - I couldn't put it down. If you are a military spouse- I think you would find the book uplifting and possibly even a 'how-to' find support during a challenging time. And if you are a family member that is desperately trying to support a military spouse in your family - this book would be invaluable to read so that you can empathize a better deeper on what he/she is going through. And for those who just enjoy a good story - I'd highly recommend this book!

While most kids are served home-cooked dinners and tucked in with bedtime stories at night, Mary Zoe never knows which version of her mother, Zodie, to expect. She might be dressed to the nines, rhapsodizing about a more luxurious way of life; or she might be strewn naked on the floor, slumped into unconsciousness by drugs and alcohol.

But either way, Mary Zoe has known from an early age that she wants a better life: freedom from the squalor, the forever-empty cupboards, and the endless parade of abusive men, tranquilizers, and booze. And when Mary Zoe’s older sister, Sissy, leaves the household, Zodie’s behavior spins even further out of control.

Coming to the painful realization that staying with her mother would mean danger, Mary Zoe crafts a plan to escape the household and leave the mother—who she loves, but who has hurt her so deeply—behind. Set in the 1960s, few people intervene to help Mary Zoe, so she learns to seek help on her own. When she is taken into foster care by a loving, stable family, she thinks her problems have finally been solved. Instead, she finds herself caught in a nightmarish court system that leaves her torn between the family she knows will love and protect her, and the damaged mother she loves but knows is certain danger.

A thrilling true story of courage and survival, Driving in the Dark documents the harrowing abuse and neglect that filled Zoe Niklas’s childhood, as well as her path to overcoming these devastating events.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Everyone should read this book!! By Linda L Schmale-Tate DRIVING IN THE DARK, by Zoe Niklas, with Janice HarperEveryone should read this book!Zoe Niklas’ Driving in the Dark is a heartfelt cry on behalf of abused and neglected children everywhere – but her story is also a strong tribute to the power of love and determination. This book, a true story, is a must-read for parents, for counseling professionals, for book clubs, for clergy, and for anyone else who has anything to do with children, or who has ever been a child. Many of us think that we have been short-changed by our parents – but most of us don’t realize how lucky we have been, and reading this story is a salutary shock. Subjected to physical abuse, neglect, and cruel criticism by her mother, a drug and alcohol addict, and sexually abused by one of a series of stepfathers, Zoe fought her way to a normal life, with the loving help of a foster family who later adopted her. Zoe’s mother, sexually abused by her own father and rejected by her mother, was unable to function or to care for her children. Yet somehow, those children struggled out from that dysfunctional family. It is a depressing story – except for the message it contains: love and determination can triumph over cruelty and abuse.Told from her own point of view as she moves from childhood into adolescence, Zoe weaves throughout the book the constant refrain of “I have to put Mama first, I have to take care of her needs.” Her book helps us remember how very captive children are to their environments, and to the adults around them. As I read, I kept thinking “Zoe!! Leave!! Get out of there!” Yet what might seem to an adult like an obvious need to escape, for a child becomes the need to transform reality, and escape from a whole pattern of thinking and self-definition. When children hear, “You are stupid, you are ugly, you are bad, you are unimportant” those messages become reality, almost impossible to escape. This book is the story of Zoe’s childhood suffering, but it is also the story of her victory in transforming her childhood self. And she has told her story with honesty, and with compassion.Toward the end of the book, having finally chosen adoption by her loving foster parents, yet still struggling to move away from her biological parents and her fears, she writes, “I knew that there were parts of Mama that I couldn’t fit into my life ever again—not her abuse, nor her lies, nor her madness. But her laughter, her humor, her life and her pain would be forever in my life and heart… The screaming in my mind had stopped. I had chosen life, my life on my terms.” So, at last, the calm and loving normality of her foster family, coupled with her own intelligence and grit, enabled her to move on.The story closes with her wedding, leading to a happy marriage, and with a tribute to her loving adoptive family, to her husband, and to the others who have helped her to tell her story. So there is a happy ending, despite the very heavy odds against it. Readers will be wise to contemplate those odds, and to think how they might move to live with the same kind of love and compassion that led one child out of a childhood hell into to a happy and productive adulthood.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Harrowing, moving and inspirational story By Richard Schwindt Reading and writing about family triggers much within us. Most people are associated with a family in some way, and a few of us are therapists and family therapists and therefore hear stories from individuals and families every day. This book was recommended to me as a scathingly honest account of one girl in the 60's growing up amidst chaos, abuse, fear and, in the end, hope. Zoe Niklas grew up with "Mama" - Zodie, her sister and a long series of "Daddy's", a few of whom were monsters. While she eventually finds herself embraced by a much better family, the story of her time with Zodie is harrowing and rings frighteningly true. I can see people looking at this book through many lenses: the life of the child of an alcoholic, mental health issues in women, trauma, the importance of the child welfare system, the effects of abuse through generations but I choose to see this as a story of resilience. We know that resilience in children emerges from two things: the child's recognition that the world around them is wrong, and the example of another adult demonstrating better ways to live. The presence of the loving Dimock family and subtle emanations of spirit in Zoe are what give this story such an inspirational quality. In the end, however what will remain with you is the complex characterization of Zodie, traumatized, victimized, destructive and self-destructive; a too vivid portrait of a human catastrophe. Always reliable writer Janice Harper helps tell the story with compassion, authority and simple readable prose. I will be recommending this book to many of my clients.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Journey Through Hell By Gordon S. Glasgow In 1970 I met a 17 year old girl on a ferry boat in Seattle. After a couple of meetings with her that seemed rather tense, her foster father explained to me that she was afraid of men (for good reason, I found out later) and I was scaring her. I backed off, gave it some time and offered to just be her friend. She somehow found the courage to accept that offer, and we have been good friends now for 45 years.Over the years she shared a few details of her early life, and I found out that she had experienced quite a lot of neglect and abuse. Now she has written a memoir about her childhood from age four up to her marriage.I had no idea how bad her life had been. This book is a story of horrendous neglect, abuse and traumatic experiences. It is truly gut-wrenching.But it is also a story of strength, determination and persistence in the face of amazing adversity. It shows how a few caring people can have a profound impact on a person's life, and that there is always hope. The revelations along the way reveal a lot about the dynamics of dysfunctional people and how there is usually a reason behind the dysfunction.I have had the honor of celebrating her triumphs and accomplishments along the way and coming to know her adoptive family and her husband. They are all remarkable people.I encourage you to read this book, but be prepared to be emotionally drained by the end.

PDF Ebook Good Education in an Age of Measurement: Ethics, Politics, Democracy (Interventions: Education, Philosophy, and Culture), by Gert J. J. Biesta

The widespread use of the measurement of educational outcomes in order to compare the performance of education within and across countries seems to express a real concern for the quality of education. This book argues that the focus on the measurement of educational outcomes has actually displaced questions about educational purpose. Biesta explores why the question as to what constitutes good education has become so much more difficult to ask and shows why this has been detrimental for the quality of education and for the level of democratic control over education. He provides concrete suggestions for engaging with the question of purpose in education in a new, more precise and more encompassing way, with explicit attention to the ethical, political and democratic dimensions of education.

By Christopher Naughton Briliant writing yet again from Biesta in a tour de force on current uncritical approach to education in practice. A must for all teacher educators, teachers and students, written in a style that is jargon free and totally understandable yet profound in its message.

Chesterton's merciless take-down of capitalism via a wonderful series of essays By Kal-El Chesterton's merciless take-down of capitalism via a wonderful series of essays. A must read for any radical looking for institutional critiques of the industrial age and its moral and literal toll.

Here is a magnificent collection of essays provided to us at a sublimely lost cost due to technology and will probably not be read because of all the techno-noise out there. This collection can broadly broken down into two main areas, those that are fairly topical and the reader will have to search the internet to appreciate certain references and those that are more theoretical.Somewhere between the Edwardians and the Modernists, Chesterton's style is music to the reader's ears. Clear, concise, at times humorous, and certainly opinionated this will give the reader a glimpse into the attitudes of the past and a window into the future. It is a must read for any student of modern English or modern topical mores.

PDF Ebook A Girl Named Dennis: Finding a way through losing a child: a father's story, by Matt Cunningham

On the morning of 17th July 2009, proud first-time dad Matt Cunningham and his wife Alison have their world torn apart by the kind of news every parent dreads: their beloved eight-week old daughter will not live to see her first birthday. As disbelief and shock give way to unrelenting pressure, everything they hold dear comes under challenge: a marriage of barely two years, the bonds of family and friendship, their self perception, even their scraps of faith. As the inevitable approaches, will the redemptive power of love be enough to see them through? Written from the father’s point of view and peppered with dark humour, this beautiful heart-rending memoir, part love story, part cry of pain, lays bare what it really feels like to love against the clock, to be a dad, a husband, a man out of his depth in the ultimate family crisis.
