But that doesn't mean that just women will enjoy it.This is probably one of the hardest book reviews I've ever written. One wrong word and the whole book is totaled. Please bear with me.It's a beautiful story set in Leeds, England at a place called, Clover House. Leo has been a resident there for quite some time and when new people come, he's sort of the ambassador. He shows them around, befriends them, and tries to make their transition easier. He's friendly, outgoing, and everyone seems to like him, except for one bully, who will not be named in this review. The bully is an antagonist but a minor character.Julie is new to Clover House, and like all other new patrons, is paired with Leo. She's young and pretty and he takes a liking to her right away. Soon, they become more than friends and the two of them embark on endeavor to fulfill Julie's dreams. The book is long but I was so drawn into the story, I never wanted it to end. I loved Leo and Julie; the story was well-thought out; and the plot was solid and a filled with emotion. The ending was a huge surprise. I can't say anymore than that. Suffice it to say, I was blindsided.I would advise the readers of this book to be patient. There are reasons why key elements are left out of the characters. It all comes together and your questions will be answered.Oh, and watch out for that poem. It had me crying like a baby. I've read it over and over and still can't get enough of it. Ironically, I'm not a huge fan of poetry. I've always said, anything can make you laugh but it takes something special to make you cry.I received an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review. As long as the minor errors were corrected, this book is an easy 5-stars. I can also see a movie deal for it should it get into the right hands.

By TLC I LOVED this book....really connected with the characters and the story ...Brook is in college now ...trying to start new...freshshe meets Drew one night at a tattoo parlor ...he's a big football man on campus... ~~A new me, for a new place.~~ But this is NOT your average "college-read"....Drew and Brook don't exactly see eye to eye at first ...Drew has a lot to learn ..about relationships and he's about to get schooled ...I adored Brook ...she's direct and thoughtful and a breath of fresh air ...I loved that Drew isn't Mr. Perfect ...he really doesn't know jack about being in a committed relationship with anyone ... ~~"Baby, we are going to happen. There's no question about that. I want you, and I know you want me, your body didn't lie."~~ Ok they do want each other ...but to begin with ..Drew only wants one thing and Brook has standards... it was refreshing how she was with him...she wasn't "playing" with him ...she was just being her ..they learned from each other and brought out the best in one another ...this book went places I wasn't expecting ...towards the end ...don't worry though ...spoiler ~>>> it is an HEA ...and frankly I'd like more please...Highly Recommended Read!!!!!!!

There was literally only one good thing about this book, and that's the writing. I will happily admit that Ashley Claudy is a good writer and is able to write in such a seamless way that everything kinda flowed. There were no awkward moments of whatnot. But damn, the story was just so over the top. Brook is totally naive to the point that it was irritating. Andrew acted like he was the best thing in the world and that the universe should bow down before him. Luke, I seriously don't even get this guy. Rose was a big b*tch from start to finish and I don't get why on earth Brook put up with that. Yeah, I get you're a nice innocent the-glass-is-half-full kinda girl, but seriously Brook, stand up for yourself. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was completely whack in this book. It was sooo over the top. Like soap-opera over the top.I don't even know what else to say about this. But yeah...not my cup of tea. Or coffee.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great Read! By Allie This did not follow the usual cliché college romance books, which is refreshing. In the beginning, Drew was a tough pill to swallow. I didn’t fall in love with him, but I liked him at the end. I loved that he was honest and did not beat around the bush, but at the same time, I did not fully like him (very very rare for me not to fully love the H). There was just something about him that turned me off; maybe it was how forceful he was with Brooke in the beginning or how cold he was throughout the book.Brooke – was just a breath of fresh air. It’s refreshing to read about a female lead who is not an idiot, who stands her ground, and does not let her past control her life. Brooke was sweet (too sweet at times) and always made sure to see a person in a positive light. I understand why she was the way she was due to her past, but again she didn’t let that rule her life. I had so much respect for her for standing her ground with Drew. She made him wait and was honest with what she wanted from him. She took the time to hear a person out and not jump to conclusions. I do wish that she was a little more mean, though. The storyline was great until towards the end, which was a head scratcher. I literally went ummmmm…. WHAT JUST HAPPENED! It didn’t flow with the story and London and Coach Kelley made no sense and TJ and Scott became two completely different characters at the end. I had my suspicions about Scott wanting more from Brooke, but his connection with London and Coach was unclear. I am still confused about TJ character. He was the typical college student then he had a secret, which was interesting, but then it went downhill from there. Rose, was an idiot through and through. She was likeable in the beginning, then became annoying in the middle of the book, and then unlikeable at the end. Tatum, I knew she would be a problem and I understood why Drew acted the way he did with her. I respected him for trying to be cordial with Tatum but her character was fake from the beginning. I am still confused about her character because Drew indicated that she had “problems” but it was never known what her problem was. I thought she was bipolar of something. Again, I felt like I was reading about different characters from start to finish.Overall, I enjoyed the book. Drew and Brooke was a perfect combo – he was too mean and she was too nice and they even eachother out. I would like more from them and to get a closure to their HEA. ….. hint hint.

It begins as an assignment for English class: Write a letter to a dead person. Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her sister, May, loved him. And he died young, just like May did. Soon, Laurel has a notebook full of letters to people like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Amelia Earhart, Heath Ledger, and more -- though she never gives a single one of them to her teacher. She writes about starting high school, navigating new friendships, falling in love for the first time, learning to live with her splintering family. And, finally, about the abuse she suffered while May was supposed to be looking out for her. Only then, once Laurel has written down the truth about what happened to herself, can she truly begin to accept what happened to May. And only when Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was -- lovely and amazing and deeply flawed -- can she begin to discover her own path in this stunning debut from Ava Dellaira, Love Letters to the Dead.

Love Letters to the Dead: A Novel, by Ava Dellaira

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Debut author Dellaira's heart-wrenching epistolary novel begins with Laurel's freshman assignment to write a letter to a dead person. She starts with a missive to Kurt Cobain, who had been a favorite of her recently deceased older sister, May. Gradually, through the teen's letters to other dead celebrities (Janis Joplin, Amelia Earhart, River Phoenix, and more), readers will begin to piece together the history of her splintered family life, including her parents' divorce and mother's virtual abandonment following May's unexplained death. Laurel is devastatingly, emotionally fragile, but she makes friends at her new high school and even starts to develop a serious love interest. Her misconstrued hero-worship of May gradually evolves into a deeper understanding of her beloved sister's strengths and many imperfections. Beautifully written, although a bit choppy in sections, particularly regarding the dead addressees' lives, this powerful novel deftly illustrates the concept that writing is an especially valuable form of healing for those dealing with overwhelming pain and grief. Best for teens who enjoyed Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower (MTV, 1999).—Susan Riley, Mamaroneck Public Library, NY

From Booklist *Starred Review* The assignment: write a letter to someone who is dead. Laurel falls into this classroom task deeper than she could have ever imagined, writing to deceased stars like Kurt Cobain, Amelia Earhart, Judy Garland, River Phoenix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse, and others whose lives ended as abruptly as Laurel’s older sister’s did. Her methodology expands beyond simply writing to the dead. Rather, she researches each recipient, learning about their lives in order to make each letter relatable to the intended party. These quite savvy letters become Laurel’s way of working through her emotions as she begins high school, makes new friends, deals with a crumbling family, falls in love, and continues to grieve for the loss of her sister. With the help of her fantasy correspondence, she is able to find common ground, express herself, and eventually discover the messages and lessons of the deceased addressee’s lives—as well as her own. Well paced and cleverly plotted, this debut uses a fresh, new voice to tell a sometimes sad, sometimes edgy, but always compelling narrative. Fans of Sarah Dessen and Jenny Han, get ready. Grades 7-10. --Jeanne Fredriksen

By Larry Hoffer This book made my heart hurt (but in a good way).At the start of her freshman year of high school, Laurel gets an interesting assignment in English class: write a letter to a dead person. Laurel chooses to write to Kurt Cobain, who was her older sister May's favorite singer. Laurel knows that Kurt understands deep emotions, pain, and anguish, feelings all too familiar to Laurel over the last year, because of May's tragic death she can't really talk about, as well as her parents' separation and her mother's subsequent move to California from their New Mexico home.Laurel's letter to Kurt taps a well in her soul which encourages her to write more letters—to Cobain, as well as Amy Winehouse, River Phoenix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Judy Garland, Amelia Earhart, and poets like John Keats and Elizabeth Bishop. She relates the challenges these celebrities faced and the lessons their lives embodied to the challenges she faces trying to put May's death and the circumstances around it behind her, trying to be a different person, trying to find friends who accept her for who she is, even if she is trying to reinvent herself and hide her feelings of guilt and shame."I want people to know me, but if anyone could look inside of me, if they saw that everything I feel is not what it's supposed to be, I don't know what would happen."The letters chronicle Laurel's experiences in high school, as she starts making friends with a group of people who have more than their own share of problems, and falls in love with a boy named Sky, who hides some of himself from Laurel as she's doing the same to him. The letters tell of the sadness Laurel feels at how much her life has changed since May's death and her parents separated. And many of the letters share Laurel's strong love for May, how May tried to protect her and make her feel at ease, even while May was going through struggles of her own.The secrets that Laurel keeps inside are slowly revealed, but only after they threaten to disintegrate her relationships with those she cares about. And while the revelations aren't really a surprise, to read about the pain and guilt and burden that one young girl feels forced to carry on her shoulders alone is really emotional. You find yourself wanting Laurel to open up to her family and friends, yet you, too, are worried how they might treat her in the end. This is a beautifully written, bittersweet, and poignant book about finding the strength to carry on, and finding the person you need to be. It's also a book about learning to trust again when those you depend on have betrayed that trust. While not all of the letters work as well as others, Ava Dellaira's writing is so compelling, so nuanced, I found myself moved nearly to tears while reading this book. It's interesting: I hadn't heard of this book until I received a targeted promotional email about it from Stephen Chbosky, author of one of my favorite books of all time, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This book tapped an emotional reservoir that Chbosky's book did, albeit coming from a different place, and like Wallflower, it's a book that will stay with me.

12 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Uninspired. By Auggie The synopsis of this work truly fascinated me and I was anxious to begin reading, there were quite a few points throughout where I saw a glimpse of the emotion and meaning that I was expecting to find throughout. Sadly, those few breakthrough moments were not enough to balance out the pages and pages of no-movement journal writing. I couldn't help but feel that the book was much longer than necessary to convey the intended message and this feeling created a tediousness that I couldn't shake.I did appreciate the presentation of "second chances". I also appreciated the "history lessons" regarding the famous people Laurel was writing to. There were certainly a few moments where everything gelled together well and made sense. Even a goosebump or two, especially at the end during reconciliation. The young main character, Laurel, is struggling with a secret. A few, actually. Not only that but she's also carrying around some serious guilt regarding things that weren't even her fault to begin with. I understand the attempt to convey an idea of struggling youth, of the necessity of identity and friendship and family, but the achingly thorough and sometimes boring detail with which the author portrays this young girl's life through her journal almost outweighs those moments of clarity, of profound thought and meaning.Truly, though, I couldn't decide if this book was meant to be a warning, a piece of encouragement, a confession, or a story of strength. I don't feel like the main character gained much strength throughout her ordeal and the people and things that brought her to her own realizations were crutches such as alcohol abuse, an intense romantic relationship, partying too hard, skipping school, breaking rules, and generally being a hoodlum. Yet she somehow maintains her grades and keeps the adults in her life somehow in the dark with her extracurricular activities. I kept waiting for her to get caught, for someone to step in and say "slow down", or for there to be a breakthrough moment when she realized what she was doing, but one never came. There almost seems to be this sense of a "Free Pass" for anyone dealing with tragedy and trauma. I'm an adult reading this work and it just all seems so incredibly unlikely to me the way things played out. Perhaps it would be different from a Young Adult perspective, from someone still in Highschool, but I personally discovered no feelings of redemption for this main character. This may be a book ready to be praised for its forward thinking and willingness to address dark and uncomfortable issues, but for me it was a mediocre turn out at best and the entire things seems rather incoherent.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful writing but couldn't connect with the character.. By Spiced Latte Love Letters to the Dead is about being able to go through the stages of grief and express yourself in a way that you might find possible. After losing her sister, Laurel has started writing letters to famous people as a part of her school project. Being able to write to someone about her feelings was at first awkward but after, she was able to express herself in a way that I've never seen before.Quote: “You think you know someone, but that person always changes, and you keep changing, too. I understood it suddenly, how that’s what being alive means. Our own invisible plates shifting inside of our bodies, beginning to align into the people we are going to become.”This was beautifully written and even though I felt Laurel's pain and later saw her transformation, I didn't think that I truly knew her as a person. She talked about her sister, family, high school life, a hot guy that started to notice her. But I didn't KNOW her, know her. It mostly felt like a dairy that someone published with an exception that it was written to famous people.Quote: “Sometimes when we say things, we hear silence. Or only echoes. Like screaming from inside. And that’s really lonely. But that only happens when we weren’t really listening. It means we weren’t ready to listen yet. Because every time we speak, there is a voice. There is the world that answers back.”Although it had beautiful writing, I really wish I would have seen more of Laurel's personality. I like to connect with the characters, especially when they are going through something hard as losing a sister, and that just didn't happen here. Final rating is "it was tiny bit more than ok" :)

Return of the millionaire's wife…

Brooke Adamson knew how devilishly handsome magnate, Rafe Charlwood felt about her. She was his wife after all—or rather she had been, until a terrible car accident three years ago, which Rafe still believed had claimed her life.

Now she's returned, with a new face and identity, to claim her son. But even though she despises Rafe—almost as much as he hates the memory of the woman he married—resisting his sinful touch and devastating kiss proves more difficult than Brooke ever anticipated…

By KayLovesToRead A Lost Love by Carole MortimerHarlequin Presents #740 ~ Nov 1984After a short 18 months, Jacqui Charlwood found herself in a loveless marriage with a husband who seemed to hate her. Her sister-in-law told her Rafe only married her for the child she gave him, so in rebellion she defied her husband and went to London to attend a party with her friends from before the marriage. When Rafe turned up at the party she flirted with her old boss, not thinking that Rafe would assume the worst. Returning to their home she discovered herself locked out at the main gate and refused entry. When she called Rafe refused to speak to her claiming all discussions would take place through the lawyers. And so young Jacqui lost not only her marriage (though she was given a very generous settlement) she also lost custody of her six month old son. She'd fought hard for her son, but Rafe had all the tricks and power behind him to see she was declared an unfit mother. And though the courts awarded her visitation, Rafe refused to allow it. Left with no life, she decided to travel to America with her friends to hopefully begin again. Only once there she'd been in a horrible car crash. Rafe had sent his Aunt Jocelyn to America to identify her body, but once there she found Jacqui barely alive with a body badly broken and a face unrecognizable. Jacqui pleaded with Jocelyn to allow her to remain "dead" and then had the surgeons create a new woman. And so Brooke Adamson was created and once her body and spirit was healed she returned to England as Jocelyn's dear friend, often visiting with her at her cottage and playing with Jocelyn's great nephew, Robert. Upon Jocelyn's death, Brooke inherits her cottage on the Charlwood estate, ensuring that Brooke will always be close to her son. When Rafe tries to get close to her, Brooke continually pushes him away for fear that he'll discover her secret.Oh wow! What a powerful story! Brooke has always felt like the one who had been wronged, but as she spends time with Rafe she slowly sees that there was more going on in her marriage than she had seen. She'd been very young, and hadn't known how to stand up for herself when Rafe had taken complete control of her life. As in most early Presents, we are not given the heroes POV, but Ms. Mortimer shows us deftly how very much Rafe has suffered. This story allows both Brooke and Rafe to come to terms with all that had happened to make their marriage fail. I loved the ending when Brooke's identity is revealed. Such a powerful love story! This one earns five stars all the way!

Months later she had been in a car accident and required plastic surgery and she had asked the doctors to give her a new face. So armed with a new face and the name Brooke she has moved near to her family determined to see her son and win back her husband. In the beginning you hate her husband but learn that things aren't always what they seem. A good read.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. good memory By Sherry Riley This is a good story. It makes me misty every time I read it, especially when Brooke discovers that Rafe knows that she is really his wife, Jacqui, that he had thought been killed in a car accident 2 years earlier.

Excerpt from John LylyThe following treatise was awarded the Harness Prize at Cambridge in 1904. I have, however, revised it since then, and in some matters considerably enlarged it.A list of the chief authorities to whom I am indebted will be found at the end of the book, but it is fitting that I should here make particular mention of my obligations to the exhaustive work of Mr Bond. Not only have his labours of research and collation lightened the task for me, and for any future student of Lyly, to an incalculable extent, but the various introductory essays scattered up and down his volumes are full of invaluable suggestions. This book was unfortunately nearing its completion before I was able to avail myself of Mr Martin Hume's Spanish Influence on English Literature. But, though I might have added more had his book been accessible earlier, I was glad to find that his conclusions left the main theory of my chapter on Euphuism untouched.Much as has been written upon John Lyly, no previous critic has attempted to cover the whole ground.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. It took a couple of attempts to get into it, but I knew I wanted and needed to learn about Lyly. When I was finally able to give it proper attention and effort it was a treasure trove of information and not only did I learn about euphuism, but a lot about Lyly, his time period, his plays, and I could clearly see his influence on Shakespeare and others.

Best PDF Ebook Online My Letters From The Heart, by Tony A. Smith

Our life is made up of a collection of letters that become in the end a book that tells the story of our life which has been written in advance by GOD. Sometimes our letters are rewritten or influenced by others in some way. A few sentences are changed here and there until the final draft is completed. Mistakes are made and we learn from them while adding more words to our final story. They are then bound together to form a book with a beautiful cover wrapping the contents in magnificent splendor. Is there anyone you can think of who has made a significant difference in your life? Have you ever stopped to take the time to jot a few words to those special people to tell them how much they really mean to you? Why is it that many of us wait until it's too late and end up publishing those thoughts in an obituary section of our local newspaper. "My Letters From the Heart" is a non-fiction memoir written in an honest, heart-warming and emotional series of letters to friends, teachers, coaches, and family members. You will walk away a different person after having read these inspirational life-changing letters. They are wrapped in humor and salted with the realities of life. Perhaps you will start to think about leaving behind something in this life of lasting importance like "the letters of your own life."

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Say it while you can By PrMoon Tony Smith nearly died of a heart attack. But he doesn't dwell on that. (That's another of his intimate books.) Rather, he uses it as the springboard for this book of gratitude, full of actual letters sharing words of thanks to the many people in his life. How often have we said, "I wish I'd have told him how much he meant to me?" Tony gets it said, and by sharing his letters he inspires us to do the same. While reminding us that we have a limited time on Earth, Smith lays out a liberating and thrilling example for us to follow in the time we have.

They all expressed their joy in reading it. One of my friends though was worried that I was ill. She kept asking "are you sure you're alright?" She was very relieved to know I was just expressing my feelings and also taking a walk down the memory lane we shared. I would recommend this book to everyone....and then write those letters!!!

Transforming Teacher Education for Social Justice offers teacher educators a new way to think about the development of culturally responsive educators. The authors identify the core components needed to restructure and reorient programs of teacher education to adequately prepare new teachers for the racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse communities they will serve upon graduation. They propose a new model of teacher preparation that capitalizes on the strengths of programs evidencing important outcomes. Chapters address the notion of situated learning embedded in communities; the need for extensive clinical experience in authentic teaching situations; strategies for interweaving theory, content, pedagogy, and classroom practice; the importance of student engagement and motivation; and the implementation of critical service learning. Key policy implications of this model are also discussed within the current landscape of teacher education reform.Book Features: * A specific approach for realizing the promise of culturally responsive teaching.* A flexible model for a community-engaged teacher preparation that is accessible to a variety of university and community settings.* Compelling data on student learning outcomes based on university/school/community collaboration as evidence of eliminating the achievement gap.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. End user book (no IT) too simple without useful information By Ariel Quesada Although the book starts so good because it shows to the reader the value proposition of the new solution Office 365, the rest of the book lacks any useful knowledge for the reader. The book tries to cover the basics of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook in a really basic way. The most basic reader won't find any useful information because it is too basic and introductory. If the book is about the general Office 365 from the end user perspective, it should include the general description of every program (since word to Access), it should give recommendations about the cloud, but unfortunately none of those things are covered. The book did not even include a good end to recommend the user the next steps or books to study in order to take advantage of the new Office.Office has a lot to offer, but this book will not help you to understand that.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Good introduction to office 365 By Glen T Roberts As the title suggests, a over view of the fundamentals. My wife just started using office 365 and this book was able to answer most of her questions. Being a kindle book she is able to access it wherever she is that she had a question.Defiantly a good source for those that have questions, simple, easy to understand, and handy.

8 of 10 people found the following review helpful. good only for novices By Michael Charlton if you have little experience with office software of any make, then you probably need this book. Don't get me wrong. if you have modest needs for word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc., and you don't have the time or patience to keep upgrading over time, then Office 365 with its online package is a good deal and if you don't have much experience or the time or inclination to learn software, this book is for you. Anything else, you need to look elsewhere.
