About the Author Lincoln Peirce has been drawing the Big Nate comic strip for more than 20 years. Born in Ames, Iowa, Peirce grew up in Durham, New Hampshire. As a kid, he began creating his own strips in the sixth grade. Peirce taught high school in New York City and has created several animated pilots for Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. He lives in Portland, Maine, with his family.

She has always loved Lincoln Peirce’s Big Nate comics. She looks forward to reading the latest strip in the Sunday paper, and she often checks Big Nate books out from both the town library and her school’s library.So, when I received an opportunity to read an advanced copy of Big Nate’s latest adventure Welcome to My World, I was very excited because I knew she would love it.Welcome to My World follows Nate, a sixth grade student. He’s a bit of an underachiever, but he makes up for it with a good sense of humor. The book is mostly made up of four panel strips, but there are also some eight-panel strips. There are several storylines, including Nate’s grandparents visiting PS 38 for Grandparents’ Day, Nate working hard to get a perfect score on his history final in order to get a B in the class, Nate taking a Junior Lifeguard class, and more. Nate is hapless, but likeable, in the same way that comic strip greats Calvin and Charlie Brown- and even Greg from Diary of a Wimpy Kid- are likeable.My daughter absolutely loved this book, especially because it was full color- “just like in the [news]paper”. She laughed and laughed- not just giggling, but full-out cackling. She said that she appreciated that there was a punchline in the last panel of each page. Her favorite part was when Nate’s grandparents visited his school, and she said it made her wish that she could have Grandparents’ Day at her school.I would absolutely recommend Big Nate: Welcome to My World. This is a fun comic strip that holds a special appeal for children because they can directly relate to Nate’s everyday experiences. Older readers can also appreciate the humor: when are orange cheezy puffs not funny?I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A cute graphic novel for kids By Grateful Grandma This is a graphic novel/comic book geared to middle grade students. Nate is in the 6th grade and he is that child that is always questioning, getting detentions and just a little obnoxious. There are stories that go on for several pages and some that are four panels short and sweet. This book takes us through Nate's everyday activities from school days, summer holidays and his interactions with both his friends and other adults in his life. I loved the story about the cheez doodles. One serving is 6.5 doodles and Nate just could not deal with that. His father is a healthy food advocate. We meet his dog who is afraid of squirrels, his friends and his family. His interactions with the brainy Gina, his interactions with the teachers and other staff at his school and his hilarious attempts at various sports will all give kids a laugh and they will be able to identify with the characters in this book. The cartoons are cute and colourful.I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a Big Nate fan and he's great for younger readers By Wayne A McCoy 'Big Nate: Welcome to My World' by Lincoln Peirce is another laugh out loud collection featuring Big Nate and his friends and teachers.Featured this time are strips about grandparent's day at P.S. 38 when Nate brings his grandparent's to school. Also Nate's attempts to get his dad to hand out candy at Halloween instead of tofu, and to make him fun lunches so that he can trade other kids for things. Nate works on becoming a lifeguard. He even gets a tutor to try to get 100% on his social studies test.I'm a fan of these collections. I recommend them to friends of mine with younger readers, and they seem to be a big hit.I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. By Marie McNeil This book, “A Love Story: An Intensely Personal Memoir” is one of those treasures that one rarely comes upon, a treasure to be held and given as a gift. While I have over 1,000 books in my Kindles, this book, which is a beautifully crafted hardcover book, is one to keep on your night table as an elegant reminder of the possibilities of love.My copy arrived on Saturday morning, which was perfection because I had the leisure time ahead of me to indulge in this sacred, beautiful, sad and joyful story. After completing what I know is only my first read, I felt compelled to share it with the world. So herein is my first review ever on Amazon.I will go back now and order more hardcover editions to give as gifts to those I love, to those who believe they are in love and want to make a commitment to another, to those who are in a love relationship who can learn from the lessons of Lance, Tricia and their dog Spirit and to those who only dream of the possibility of such a love. An Exquisitely Beautiful Tale of True Love By Trish Langmuir Taylor This is an exquisitely beautifully written tale of two people whose love transcends all time and boundaries. It can be a quick read or a slow luxurious one.Lance Secretan is a masterful writer. Through his eternal and unconditional love for Tricia, he selflessly provides unforgettable inspiration to other couples about how to live in a deep and evolved way.On the lighter side I might add that I knew Tricia and remember well the time back in the 1980s when she met Lance. I used to tease her playfully about "Lance Romance" and all the great fun they were getting up to in those halcyon days when their love was new.

These are just some words that come to mind when I read A Love Story by Lance Secretan. These words seem inadequate to express the way I felt reading the beautiful words written by Lance about his relationship his beautiful soul mate, Tricia. Lance opens his heart, and eloquently shares their love story. It's hard to imagine two people could share a more special love than the one Lance writes; many think it can only be in a fairytale. Fairy tales come true in A Love Story. I laughed, cried, and my faith in the power of love was renewed, and so will yours. This is a must read.

Invite Prayer into Your Child's Life By BeckyJacoby While I don’t ordinarily review picture books, I am glad to make an exception for Peter’s Perfect Prayer Place (Peter’s). I recently received this and several books for review from B&H Publishing Group, each relating to the upcoming film by the Kendrick brothers entitled The War Room. Two were children’s books. Prayer Works was the other one, similar in theme to Peter’s, but for older children.It has been a joy to witness Kendrick brother’s film-making ministry (Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Courageous) reach ever wider audiences. Now with the premier of The War Room on August 28, they have (and it can’t be serendipitous) hit an underlying need in America, the need for prayer to turn around lives and our nation.The cover and illustrations are engaging and fun.Being an artist myself, I appreciate the inviting style of the illustrator, the use of vibrant colors, rounded child-like features and simple gestures. The book is large format, about 9- x 12-inches, a nicely printed hardback with a full-color illustrated jacket over an illustrated cover.What child doesn’t like rhyme?Thought was given to the interior design of the book. The art layouts span the pages nicely. The font is easy to read.Pages contain four lines of rhyming text a child can understand and identify with.At the end of the story, the child has a good idea about how to pray and what prayer means.A pull out poster and accompanying stickers help parents continue to teach their child about prayer, how to make prayer a life-long habit, and that God answers prayer.I would recommend this book for any child.In my opinion, this is an excellent book to introduce any child to prayer and encourage him or her to make a habit of prayer. The rhyming cadence of the prose makes this a catchy, fun read.This book gives a good lesson that although you can draw away and pray you can also pray anywhere and anyway you want. The greatest thing is that our kids have the desire to prayer.There was a little surprise at the end for the kids (or you) to write down things they are praying for on a big poster they could hang up in their room. And what child doesn’t love stickers? This book includes stickers your child can use to mark off when they prayer.I love the idea of this book. My son, who is nine, felt it was a bit young for him but he thought it was nice. So I would recommend this book for preschool and early elementary age children.A copy of this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

By Pirate2240 A small boy by the name of Peter is used to seeing his mommy pray in her special prayer room, and now he is searching to find his own special place to pray. You can help Peter begin his search in the delightful, beautifully illustrated hardcover children's book, Peter's Perfect Prayer Place from Stephen and Alex Kendrick, creators of the upcoming movie War Room.Peter searches and wonders if his perfect place to pray, might be among the pots and pans. Is it up on his swing? Inside his tent? Where can God hear him the best? As Peter begins his hunt, he looks and looks but soon finds himself getting discouraged. But what he discovers is that the place that is the best is anyplace, God hears you no matter where you are. Peter finds help through the conversations he has with his mother and father, and children are encouraged to learn that no matter where you are, God is always ready to listen to your prayers.Included in this book is a prayer poster and 4 pages of stickers that encourage your child to spend time talking to God, whether praying for their parents, helping them to be nice to their siblings, praying for people in other countries, to bless their best friend and a place for parents to write down their child's prayer. There are even stickers that say "God Answered" so your child can see how God answers those prayers and teaches them that prayer is the best weapon we have as Christians and that God does answer them, sometimes in ways we had expected and often in ways we didn't want.I received Peter's Perfect Prayer Place by Alex and Stephen Kendrick compliments of B and H Kids Publishing Group and Icon Media Group for my honest review. I loved the illustrations because as a child that is what appealed to me the most. To bonus of having a prayer poster is amazing because it highlights the importance of journaling our prayers so we can be encouraged when we pray and know God has answered them in the past. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

Excerpt from Play-Making a Manual of CraftsmanshipThis book is, to all intents and purposes, entirely new. No considerable portion of it has already appeared, although here and there short passages and phrases from articles of bygone years are embedded - indistinguishably I hope - in the text. I have tried, wherever it was possible, to select my examples from published plays, which the student may read for himself, and so check my observations. One reason, among others, which led me to go to Shakespeare and Ibsen for so many of my illustrations, was that they are the most generally accessible of playwrights.If the reader should feel that I have been overlavish in the use of footnotes, I have two excuses to allege. The first is that more than half of the following chapters were written on shipboard, and in places where I had scarcely any books to refer to; so that a great deal had to be left to subsequent enquiry and revision. His writing is pleasant and often witty. Certainly much of the information is outdated in how modern playwrights probably work, but as a basic introduction to the various elements of the craft, this is a nice book. Sadly, while he references "popular" playwrights, many of these names are no longer produced or read.

I get to understand Desi's actions one needed to know about her past, but I feel like this particular story didn't match up with the other two books. But it was a REALLY GOOD STORY!! But then there were the errors. Simple misspelling of words that could have easily been fixed. At one point, something stated about 3 pages before had been repeated word for word. This author has a lot of potential and I am interested in seeing what other works she has to offer

More Sh!t No One Tells You By Texas Library Lady Like her previous book The Sh!t No One Tells You: A Guide to Surviving Your Babies First Year (2013) Dais presents her own struggles with her toddlers as well as her MOFL (Moms on the Front Lines). This time she also brings two professionals , Katie Hurley and Gail Maire Poverman-Kave, both Licensed Clinical Social Workers.I was laughing before I even got to the first chapter. The chapter titles, listed in the table of contents are spot on for anyone who has ever parented a toddler. Here are some of the very best chapter titles (and believe me, it was not easy narrowing down to just three).Walking is Hard. Bruising is considerably less difficult.Remember When You Judged Other Parents? Prepare to eat your words with a side of karma's a bitch.Pictures are Deceiving. "Smile for the camera! We are happy, dammit!"I highly recommend this book for those who are in these "precious" years with their child, on the cusp of these years, or maybe as a means of birth control for others. Readers will fall into two categories - Rolling on the floor laughing at the stories and remembering their own experiences or crying at the joys they have in their future. Either way all will enjoy this wonderful new book by Dais and her band of Merry Mothers.

Nothing makes being a mom to crazy toddlers easier than laughing about it. Now that I've read it I sometimes find myself pausing in a crazy situation and thinking about how it would look in the book. Then I laugh a little before diving in to deal with whatever off the wall mishap my lunatic children have created!

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book for reviewIt took me a while to read this book because I guess....I have toddlers. HA HA HA.Being able to have a little quiet time to even read only cause me to fall asleep since there are only so many hours in the day. Even so, when I finally got through the book I realized that while it made me chuckle the book just made me stressed and did not really alleviate the issues I go through on a daily basis. While we can commiserate about the crap we have to deal with little ones, I rather have good sound advice that encourages me rather than feeling like I am still in a pit with other moms, or MOFL (Mother on Front Lines). I see and read the book and get the gist but it was just not for me. Thanks though!

By Tina Morgan First off let me say I am totally against cheating on your spouse while your married. With that being said I can go into my review. This was actually a really good book maybe because this story was so close to actually sounding like it really could happen. Meredith was a well educated lawyer that knew what she wanted. She had the perfect man(Brad)that she knew down to a t... he wanted her, money and power. Not always in that order. And as you read this book you will see she was usually at the bottom of the totem pole. He talked her into having children. She didn't want to give up her career just yet but he told her it would be fine. 9 years and 2 kids later....Meredith meets the colonel on a field trip with their elementary aged kids. They both felt a pull towards each other after that day. I have to give her credit she tried and tried to stay away from Vince and not give in. Her marriage with Brad was dissolving but she refused to break her marriage up. She never wanted to have to drop her kids of with their father every other holiday. Brad was away on business a lot. I actually didn't like him and wished she would've just divorced him. Lol But every time she turned around there Vince was with his dazzling smile. We find out later he was into her and had some stalker tendencies. Lol. He was also married. His wife was here and there throughout the book and she seemed sweet. He confesses to Meredith that he was so concentrated on schooling and being in the law enforcement that he just went along with marrying his wife. He didn't really wake up till Meredith. So basically this book is about 2 adults that aren't happy in their marriages. They end up having an affair. They have rules. Vince always wants honesty. Meredith has a few more rules. One rule which is the most important is if she ever emails him with no subject and no content he is to delete anything they have said to each other because it means her husband has caught on to something. They see each other for awhile and she breaks it off a couple times but she needs him like air. They fell in love. The end is a cliff hanger and I can't wait to read what happens next. Let's just say she sends an email to him with nothing...... And then there's an accident.....

It was the devil’s playground.”These two books are a duet and ones that I read one after the other, only taking the mandatory toilet breaks and of course feeding the husband and kids, they were that addictive. Yes, this book does contain cheating which I know is a major turn off for some readers, however, the way that Meredith’s story is delivered is sympathetic, understandable and totally consuming.“I’ve stopped time and have you all to myself, and in the moments I’m quiet, I’m trying to figure out how to never start it again.”The Devils Playground is totally told in Meredith’s point of view and brings to the forefront just how lost she feels. Having been forced to move to the suburbs by her husband, to a house that she didn’t want and an area where she knew no-one she had never felt so isolated. Once a high flying attorney Meredith’s life is now monotonous, predictable and totally orbits around the lives of her two hilarious children. Meredith’s kids are the light of her majorly dim life and if it wasn’t for them she would have given up a long time ago.Meredith’s husband, Brad, still lives the single life. He “works” all the hour’s god sends and is never ever around. Leaving the house in the early hours and rarely home before 10pm. Always attending happy hours, company dinners and a plethora of parties, leaving Meredith and the kids behind. “Work” invades his weekends and he really is a stranger in the night. I had my suspicions about Brad from the very beginning, he tried to come across as perfect and being the bread winner for the family, but when someone is so perfect, more often than not they are not, they are always hiding something.“He’d wanted me so much back then, and I’d wanted him to have me. I just hadn’t realised how much he would take.”Vince, I ADORED this man, he was the Colonel, the head of police in this little community and everyone loved him. He was the one stable person of authority that everyone relied upon and he was selfless. He helped everybody, was a volunteer for all school and community functions and was a real pillar of the community. He had a wife and family too, but in the past two years he had really been at the point of his life where he was re-evaluating everything.“He was magnificent. A souvenir I hadn’t paid for, the vacation I didn’t earn. He was stolen goods, and I never wanted to return them, but I also knew I wouldn’t do the time to keep him. The cost was too high.”When Meredith and Vincent’s paths cross the attraction is undeniable, the chemistry is palpable and the kindle literally combusted. But Meredith is a woman of morals and was adamant that she would never have an affair. Eliza Freed really captured that push and pull of attraction, that back of forth of conscience over emotion and the true fight to do what is right and to try and make the right choices.“This won’t work if you’re in love with me. A mistake will be made.”“It isn’t a mistake.”“It’s worse. We’re a tragedy.”As much as I should have been rooting for these two to steer clear of each other there was no denying their attraction and it really was a foregone conclusion. This was not just an attraction of lust but they had an undeniable friendship, a soul mate connection that grew and grew the more and more they spent in each other’s company. It is this intense connection that managed to shift my moral compass firmly in their corner. I would never condone an affair, however, these two were perfect for each other and with such a crappy husband who showed her no affection, no attention and literally used her, it was no surprise that she strayed. However, it was not an easy choice and one that she battled with for a long time.“Brad didn’t realize I wasn’t some twenty-five-year-old he was effing. I was his wife, and I was already gone.”The Lion’s Den was fast paced and action packed and was told in three POV’s, Brad, Vince and Meredith. Eliza Freed really delivers an epic conclusion to this duet that will have you on the edge of your seat while delivering curve ball after curve ball.“Just follow your heart. It’ll lead you home.”“What if my heart lost its memory too?”Everyone’s story is told in this book and finally you get to see the behind scenes, warts and all which only added another dimension to the twisted that Eliza Freed has penned.“When a married man had an affair with a young girl, he was the only one having an affair. She was dating.”This duet was totally addictive, unputdownable and for me, an easy, quick read. Meredith’s kids really add the fun factor to this story and created many a laugh out loud moment as I sympathised with the endless, monotonous unanswerable questions that kids manage to pluck out of thin air and of course you cannot beat their unique fashion sense. Meredith was the epitome of a mama bear, her kids always came first and foremost and she would lay her life down for them, her life was her kids until someone showed her that she deserved a life too.“I was unhappy-horribly unhappy-and lonely. I let you fix what you never broke. I let you fill a spot you never vacated. I slipped into the darkness, because I’d follow you to hell if you asked me to.”This was a beautiful story that will have you heart swooning, while the suspense will have your stomach tied up in knots. It’s emotional in places but perfectly balanced with wit and humour that will also have you laughing out loud. For a cheating story, it worked, it wasn’t illicit, it was two people that found love when they weren’t looking. I cannot wait to read more from this author, my only complaint…I WANT AN EPILOGUE!!!!!“I’m Daniel, and my marriage is the lion’s den.”

By Samantha Pereira For those that believe there's never a reason to cheat, this novel blows that notion to bits with talented writing and a gripping story line. It is easy to understand how lines become blurred and how lonely hearts wander and seek out companionship and tenderness. Meredith and Vincent are easy to like and relate to even.Meredith was once a high-powered attorney until she was forced to become a stay-at-home mother. Her life consists of handling everyone's needs at the cost of burying her own. She doesn't have anyone to really talk with about her desires, needs, and wants since her husband is essentially just a monetary provider. He expects her to raise the children, manage the household, and give in to his physical needs without actually giving any support to Meredith besides money.Vincent is the chief of police for the small town where he and Meredith reside. He always knew he wanted to be on the force and never gave much thought to his love life so he married his high school girlfriend. His daughter is the same age as Meredith's. He never thought to stray from his dull marriage until meeting Meredith.The two meet due to the field trip both offered to chaperon for. They feel a zing of awareness which manifests inside them as lust. They are both seeking more out of their marriages to which they end up finding in each other. Vincent specifically gives Meredith the validation she seeks by asking about her day, her desires, and giving her what he can to satisfy her emotionally, mentally, and physically. He validates her existence with a job at the police office to get her out of the house and use her brain. He gives her his ear and satisfies her sexual desires.While I don't condone cheating, this novel really opened my eyes to understand. Granted, there's jackasses out there that just think they can do whatever they want and cheat but that isn't what happens in this novel. This story makes you really understand the reasons, how they tried to fight it, and how they ended up giving. The story completely hooked me and I look forward to reading the second book.
