He really enjoys this book and is working his way through it with some (minimal) support. When he begins to have an outburst of anger (or tears) we discuss the situation in the context of the book. He is making great progress in learning to use the techniques to cut off or minimize the outburst.I highly recommend this tool, and will be buying additional copies for some of the other teachers to use with their students.

By Bob the Builder's mom My son (almost 8) has low frustration tolerance and poor problem-solving skills (and thinking skills in general) when he is mad. The most useful part of the book for us was the second half with worksheets to help kids come up with solutions to hypothetical problems. The book is not just talking at kids but actually working with them to show them how to handle problems. It also gives many suggestions for alternative, acceptable behavior during frustrating moments -- talking to a friend, drawing a picture of your anger, hitting a pillow, that sort of thing. My son and I have tried lots of alternative strategies, but none seem accessible to him when he's actually mad, so that part wasn't as useful for us but might help some other kids.The book also makes it clear that anger is just another one of our emotions. Everyone gets mad, and it's not bad to get mad. I recently found out that my son thought other people don't get mad like he does. I've seen him reading this book on his own many times, and I think he's fascinated by the fact that it's talking about something that causes him so much trouble and that it's talking about it like it's a normal thing that happens to lots of kids -- which it is!His little brother, who just turned 6, can't read well enough to look at this on his own yet, but he also really liked the book when I read it to him. We couldn't finish it all at once (not because the book is long but because we only had a few minutes to read), and he was really disappointed we couldn't keep going.The example problems are realistic and will hit home with most kids. A great book with practical applications.

I did this with my 7 year old and he wanted to go through it in one night. We have gone through it a second time already and I can see us going through it again. I love that it's let children know that anger is not bad, it's how you deal with it that can be the problem.The workbook allows kids to work though and create some of their own ideas for dealing with anger.

About the Author

Raised on a Northern Montana wheat farm, Sheralynn Ries’s first experiences with cronehood came from her maternal Dutch grandmother, an independent, opinionated, and inquisitive woman. Ries considers Montana to be “the last best place,” but currently lives less than a mile from the Pentagon. A well-established crone, Ries shares her insights on life and aging through seminars and writing.

Vivian McDermott lives in a Montana town where her family invests in real estate and oil and gas exploration. She completed her degree in education during the women’s liberation movement. McDermott has written since her Grandma Mazelle first taught her to write letters.

McDermott and Ries began collaborating on books when they were in their late fifties, believing that by sharing their experiences, they could enrich the lives of others.

The Crone's List.....a great relationship guide By Amazon Customer It’s a great story highlighting who they dated learning about the potential of forces outside their control. It’s a light hearted tale about what they learned along the way of their journey in dating and relationships.The endlessly imaginative care packages mixed with the value of sharing other people's words of wisdom helped others to gain confidence and self-esteem were quite entertaining. There's some good advice to learn by sharing our experiences and maybe avoid the potholes one could fall into and the rabbit holes one could go down along the way to finding a mate. My all time favorite from the list... If the train doesn’t stop at your station, it wasn’t your train!

I am not much of a reader, but found myself unable to put the book down once I started. I finished reading it at about 4 AM. The book would be a great addition to any school library. Lots of words of wisdom and great advice for young people today.I read a free copy of the book and plan to buy several as gifts to give to young people that are in the beginning stages of boy/girl relationships. They can learn a lot about making good decisions when looking for their lifetime mate. Thank you to the authors for their experiences that helped to make this a very interesting book for anyone to read.

Verrall An enjoyable, lighthearted read that takes you through the lives of two "Crone's" as they team up to influence their grand-daughter/God-daughter to pursue her college education in earnest rather than entertaining her stated goal of finding a husband. This would make an excellent book club read for young women getting ready for college, maybe a college resident to use as a springboard for conversations/team building/getting-to-know-you activities. Goodness knows young women need to recognize the perils involved in certain relationships. The Crone's give good advise in a non-preachy way. The recipes for care packages are an added plus that parents of college-bound girls will appreciate.

In terms of full disclosure, I must say that David Levy and I are personal friends, and were professors at the University of Oklahoma until our retirements. This, and his second volume, are very interesting accounts of the University's development. But, the strength of both volumes is in the fact that they are accounts rooted in the characteristics and history of a regional culture. The style of both volumes is unusually clear and unpretentious. Both are an utter pleasure to read.

I'm sure he had ample opportunity to leave Norman for greener academic pastures yet chose to make the Univ. of Oklahoma his home. I was fortunate to have him for two courses, Mark Twain's America and American Intellectual History. He fostered my love of all things Twain and contempt for all things Fenimore Cooper. No one is more deserving of the honor of being OU's official historian.

It spoke to me, being middle aged myself. I find that most romances main characters are of younger ages, but Brooke was in her early forties, and Chance was 33. Chance first came across for a brief moment as the typical, sexy good looking man, but he soon proved to be more than meets the eye. Chance becomes attracted to Brooke, a women who had been abandoned by her husband of 20 plus years of marriage. Like a lot of men, deciding the grass was greener on the other side. Brooke was typical, she had dedicated her life to Gary, her husband and her two children, neglecting her needs for years. The typical "they come first, you come last". Brooke finds herself in Florida starting a new life where she meets HIM, Chance. Not only does he surprise Brooke, but he surprises himself when he starts to have feelings for her that reach deeper than friendship. Chance's profession nearly destroys his relationship with Brooke, but in the process reveals shocking details & secrets about Brooks life from the past 20 years of her marriage. Tragedy, pain, danger, and love are what broke two families apart, but it will also be what brings one family back together. Chance is like a book boyfriends version of Jack Bauer from the TV series 24, with all the sex appeal and the "I Love You" mixed in with it. Remember, Jack Bauer always came to the rescue, he always knew what to do, and HE was one BAD ASS. A must read. If you want a love story mixed with intrigue, mystery, danger, crime, and good alpha sex with the promising looks to kill and a body to die for, look no further. Brooke walks into her bedroom to find her husband with another woman; a very young woman. 23 year of marriage ended-just like that.In attempts to find herself and start over, Brooke leaves her Michigan home and sets out for Florida. She finds a fancy condo and has plans on finding a job and embracing her new life. Until dinner and too much wine find her meeting Chance Evans.Chance is younger, overly confident, a bit mysterious and super sexy. He also happens to be a bounty hunter. After a few failed attempts, Chance is finally able to get to know Brooke and they find themselves at a crossroad. Love? Lust? Something in between?Just as things start heating up between Brooke and Chance, he gets called out on a job. A BIG job, taking down a drug lord. Before anyone can stop it, Brooke finds herself in a world of trouble being kidnapped as a ransom. It's her life or Chance Evans.This book had a lot of personality to it--I loved it. I do however wish that we would have seen what happens with Chance's mom, Marlene. She was such a strong character then she faded out. Where'd she go!? I have read most of her books and they are outstanding. This is a second chance romance book about an older woman finding love with a younger man. The situation is realistic in this book and well described and developed. There is a great building of the climax of the book and angles that the reader could not see coming. The book was not predictable as most romances are. The twist at the end was the only part of the book that left me wanting for more. I would have liked to have a little more explanation of how the twist came about. But other than that, I feel the book was well written, the actions appropriate for the story line, and the sex scenes were not over the top like some erotica can be. Great read, once again, from this author

This thing is about as tall as an iPhone 6+ standing up and about as wide as the same phone on it's side. Make absolutely certain you see the product dimensions which I didn't: Product Dimensions: 5.2 x 2 x 6.2 inches. My second gripe is that, while this is marketed as a "phonics box," the books inside are more like for a pre-schooler. A kindergartner or 1st grader would laugh at the simplicity of these "stories" which usually consist of 3-4 words per page.You may look at this like I did and say "8 bucks for this many books? Wow!" But the reality is you're getting glorified Happy Meal toys in a single, tiny cardboard box.

We went through another phonics-based program a year ago, but I thought this might encourage her further because she's really in love with My Little Pony.I am extremely disappointed. I opened the very first booklet and it asks the young reader to learn 'sight words.' If I wished for her to just memorize some crap, I would have sent her to public school! The books don't even describe the sounds (ie 'short i').This set of books is mislabeled and misleading.

By MCJ This is a beautifully written, heartfelt and genuine story of a couple who is experiencing difficulty conceiving. It allows us to accompany Amelia and Jake on their journey, as with great desire they long for the fruit of their marriage. We get to share in their setbacks, their frustrations, the suffering they experience, and how they cope with it as a married couple.The book is never preachy. Amelia and Jake's choice to use natural methods over IVF is their personal choice, cooperating with nature and God's will, but not a condemnation of her sister Claire's IVF pregnancy. Despite their desire for a child of their own, Amelia and her husband want to do things right, even if that choice means that ultimately they may remain childless. The book shows the beauty of how Jake and Amelia support each other in their marriage and live out their promise to be true to each other in good times and in bad.I love this book especially because it gives me, the father of five children, three of whom are alive and two lost in miscarriages, insight into the enormous struggle couples are experiencing when dealing with infertility. I love this book also because it gives me a little bit of insight into how it affects women in a way that we men normally don't get to see. As Amelia says in her story, pregnancy is visible, but infertility remains invisible. Thank you, Neesha Oliver, for making infertility visible and bringing it into the open.

About the Author Shelia Yvette Smalley, Ph.D. lives in Leesburg, Florida. For more than 30 years, she has prided herself with a wide variety of educational experiences which include Head Start teacher, k-8 classroom teacher, director of a child care center, Title I Reading and Math specialist and counselor, instructor for the General Education Degree program, assistant professor of Education at Bethune-Cookman University, elementary school principal, television anchor and instructional teacher, program specialist for training and development (school district level), and director of School Improvement (university level). She retired as an associate professor of Exceptional Student Education, Department of Child, Family, and Community Service, at the University of Central Florida, College of Education, in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Smalley’s research interests include working with culturally and linguistically diverse exceptional students and their families and at-risk communities which make her an exceptional woman to look up to. In June 2015, Dr. Smalley retired as the founder and educational leader of the Humanities and Fine Arts Charter School in Leesburg, Florida. Today, she serves as the pastor of Macedonia Church of the Living God, Inc. in Leesburg, Florida. She is a fourth generation female minister and the third generation woman pastor of her church, which was founded by her great aunt and mother in May, 1954. Her writings are found in educational journals, such as Urban Education, The Educational Forum, Journal of At-Risk Issues and Preventing School Failure, as well as chapters in textbooks. Presently, she serves as a life coach, consultant to schools, professional and community organizations.

It was perfect for that. I was anxious to read The Full Moon at the Napping House and have been most pleased with it. I don't have school children anymore to share my favorites with but I do have grand and great grand children to share my favorites. This is another really good sleepy time stories to share with my little folks. I am very happy to award this new Napping book five stars and think it deserves more than five. It is an excellent book with lovely illustrations. I don't think that people will be disappointed with this addition to the Napping collections.

Destined to become a classic By Jessica at Cracking the Cover If you’re a fan of “The Napping House,” “The Full Moon at the Napping House” should definitely be added to your bookshelf. If you’re not a fan, you will be after reading “The Full Moon at the Napping House.” Beautiful paintings and expertly crafted text come together in the perfect package. The words roll off your tongue and the illustrations draw you in. The publisher’s suggested age range is 4-7, but I think you can definitely go younger with this one. My 18-month-old started oohing and awing as soon as it came out of its package. She loved the rhyming text and pointing at the different characters throughout.

I found myself with the link available to write one, however, and just could not refrain from making a short stab at it. This set of tapes contains wisdom not just for couples but for anyone, at any time. A comprehensive base of spiritual wisdom drawn from world religions and and the best of thought is condensed into this perspective. Moreover, the suggestions that follow from it are practical and workable. How I wish I had discovered this set of tapes sooner! How I wish it were in hard copy. If you are in need of help, go here. The opening message by Stephen (both he and his wife are conducting the workshop from which the tapes were made) put me off a bit at first, with its quality of incantation. I realize now that this was likely the leading of an opening meditation. Continue. You will not be disappointed!

Met my expectations By Suzanna Davis I had high expectations of this because his book A Gradual Awakening was my introduction to meditation and a new way of seeing in the lost and crazy days following the 1970's for me. I have listened to many audiobooks since then and even attended a vipassana (which I left after 5 days because it did not live up to its promise of being " the essence of what the Buddha taught, it is not a religion; rather, it is the cultivation of human values leading to a life which is good for oneself and good for others." NOT. ) I am a big Pema Chodron fan, I love the Dalai Lama and yet there is something new and more assimilatable about much of what they say here. It starts out slow but stay with it... I recommend it to anyone who is open to learning about themselves and love.

Emma has given us good, complex yet believable characters. They have secrets, problems, hopes and fears just like we do. And they behave and speak the way real people do. The characters are definitely my favorite part of this book. The pace of this book is QUICK! But I'm one of those people who believe in soul mates and love at first sight. That's what you get in this book. But Rachael and Noah are so far from being one dimensional, typical romance characters. Emma has created strong characters who not only move the story along, but will make you believe all things in love are possible.When I read romances I want a good story to go with the love life of the characters. Emma has definitely delivered. The story line contains enough twists and turns to keep you interested and trying to guess how things are going to end. The ulterior motives of the antagonist are, again, believable and the final suspenseful scene has a great twist. I loved it!Bride for the Bear makes for a great read! I can't wait for the next installment in the series. Kudos, Emma!I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rachel has writers block, her physic friend sends her to Bear Haven, Oregon. While driving to the cabin she meets Noah when she hits him with her car. Lucky for Noah he is a bear and also her mate. But all is not well in Bear Haven. There is an elder and his daughter who desire power and dislike humans. Will they destroy Rachel's feelings for Noah? Were they responsible for a wrong committed in the past? This is a great story at 5 stars.I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fortunately, they feel complete with each other, even though obstacles keep being placed in front of them. To find out what happens, you'll need to read this book. Enjoy!

An engaging, warts-and-all memoir by a very likable lady By Whistlers Mom This is another in a long list of things that I have approached "bass-ackward." A sane reader would start with Ms. Butfield's first (and very successful) GLASS HALF FULL (which tells of her decision to immigrate from England to Australia) and then read this book (which tells of her decision to leave Australia and settle in France) and then read her third book THE ACCIDENTAL AUTHOR (which relates the development of her career as a writer.)Not me! I started with THE ACCIDENTAL AUTHOR, which I enjoyed very much for its humor and its insights into the world of self-publishing. I'm not a writer, but I read so many indie books that I'm fascinated by the process. Then I realized that I had picked up a copy of TWO DOGS AND A SUITCASE because it sounded interesting and it was on sale. I STILL haven't read her first book, but I will.The main thing that strikes me about this book is that the French should absolutely ADORE the English and Americans. Who else would buy all of the ancient, gonna-cost-a-kazillion-euros-to-make-it-livable piles that no Frenchman or Frenchwoman would spend a night it? This intrepid (i.e. crazy) couple landed in France with two Australian Sheep Dogs, one suitcase, and practically no knowledge of France or the French language (which is notoriously difficult to learn.) Being cash-strapped, they bought an uninhabitable old house and moved in. Dear God.And this isn't a childless couple who have nothing else to worry about, either. There are children and step-children and in-laws and ex's. To be honest, I never really got them all straightened out and the author sort of explains things as she goes along and some things are only hinted at. I would have enjoyed the book more if she had started with a brief history of her family and identified the players in advanced. As it was, I was lost much of the time.But she's a charming writer and her love of life comes through and pulls you into the story, almost against your better judgement. And she loves France and the French, which is more than can be said for many English ex-pats there. She and her husband have frequent contact with other ex-pats, but they actually get to know and love many of their neighbors. French bureaucracy and French bureaucrats are justly feared and hated, but French country people are usually kind and open-hearted.Sometimes I thought they should both be committed to a mental institution, but I was never tempted to stop reading. This lady can tell a story.

Ficcaglia I read both of Sarah Jane Buttfield's books and she does a wonderful job describing their journey, her writing is excellent, and I admired her use of language to evoke a mood or to detail a situation. However, the problems with punctuation were extremely distracting and detracted significantly from the reading experience. She especially is unclear about commas, sprinkling them liberally where they have no business going. Additionally she sometimes uses them to splice two sentences together, or else comes up with a phrase that isn't a complete thought and yet she sets it off with a capital letter at the beginning and a period at the end. At times she is repetitive, and I was sorry that the end of her second book seemed to focus more on the publishing of her first one instead of continuing the story of their move. A good editor could have addressed all of these issues and turned two good but flawed books into two excellent ones. It's a shame she didn't use the services of one.

By rhosymynydd The thought of moving to Charente was and is worrying me, so, looking for a suitable tome on the subject, I chanced upon "Two dogs and a suitcase" aka "Clueless in Charente"; that about sums up how I feel right now. Details, even down to her two dogs (Great Danes in my case, who will be coming with us). I have not yet read Sarah Jane Butfield's earlier work, ("Glass half full" - her adventures in Australia) but am intending to dip my head into that one very soon; especially after reading this so fluid a novel. Sarah, like myself has moved around country to country, and, hoping to settle finally in Charente, she and her husband buy a 'renovation' project. Braver than us, she has a lot of work to do, holes in roof, earthen floors, overgrown jungle etc.....and not the easiest of a life to do it with. Blowing a great deal of their savings on the house itself (and attached barn), they begin the renovation. Money is a constant problem as most expats in the renovation game have found to their cost; and, with winter looming and family and health problems abounding, life is very unfair. Sarah deals with the most awkward, amusing and difficult circumstances with aplomb; although she may not have thought or realised it at the time!The book is fluidly written and with a unique style, drawing the reader in, as the 'plot thickens'..Her rocks - her husband Nigel and her two lads - her Australian Cattle Dogs, Dave and Buster - complement the household. You cannot help but keep turning the pages to find the next situation/adventure in her life in Charente. It is almost compulsive reading, I started on chapter one and at 2:00 am finished the book!!!Sarah is a very personal author, she lets you into her most private life, leaving out little It is this that must endear her most to her reading public; to build empathy with, and sympathy for their circumstance sthat in some instances are dire indeed as lack of money forces extreme measures in dietary compromise and the art of foraging. Through it all, Sarah seems to shine and her subtle information on Charente's village life and markets/Vide Greniers/shops/surrounding area is excellent for us wood-be expats. I knew very little about Charente, as it was not our first destination, but finding the ideal rental base from which to house hunt has put us firmly on Charente soil. I will be forever grateful for this superb grounding on our future home. Thank you so much Sarah for making me laugh, cry and enjoy a really good book.

And one couldn't ask for a more talented artist and writer to tell the story than Chris Van Allsburg. Allsburg, a sculptor who entered the genre nonchalantly when he created a children's book as a diversion from his sculpting, won the 1986 Caldecott Medal for this book, one of several award winners he's produced. The Polar Express rings with vitality and wonder.

Dear Amazon Readers,

Over the past twenty-five years, many people have shared stories with me about the effect that reading The Polar Express has had on their families and on their celebration of Christmas.

One of the most poignant was told to me five or six years ago at a book signing in the Midwest, on a snowy December evening. As I inscribed a book to a woman in her sixties, she told me that it was the second copy she had owned, and wanted to know if she could she tell me what had happened to the first. "Of course," I answered.

A dozen years earlier the woman, who had no children of her own, befriended a neighbor, a boy of about seven, named Eddie. He would often cross his driveway to visit her.

She had a collection of picture books, which she read to him, but around the holidays, the only story he ever wanted to hear, over and over, was The Polar Express. One year she offered to give him the book, but Eddie declined because he wanted to hear her read it aloud to him, which she continued to do every year until the boy and his family moved away.

Years later the woman learned from a mutual acquaintance that Eddie had grown up and become a soldier. He was stationed in Iraq. Since Christmas was approaching, the woman decided to send him a gift box. She included candy, cookies, socks, and her old copy of The Polar Express. She wasn't sure what a nineteen-year-old battle-weary soldier would do with the book in an army barracks in the Middle East, but she wanted him to have it. A month later, after the holidays had passed, she received a letter from Eddie.

He told her he was very happy to have heard from her and to get the box of gifts. He had opened it in his barracks, just before curfew, with some of his fellow GIs already in their bunks. A soldier in the next bunk spotted the book. He knew it well from his own childhood and asked Eddie to read it. "Out loud?" he asked. "Yeah," his buddy told him.

Eddie, quietly and a little self-consciously, read The Polar Express. When he'd finished and closed the book, a moment of silence passed. Then from behind him a voice called out, "Read it again," and another joined in, "Yeah, read it again," and a third added, "This time, louder." So Eddie did.

He wrote to the woman that he'd stood up and read it to his comrades just the way he remembered she had read it to him.
