Excerpt from Life of Robert BurnsThe Life of Robert Burns has employed the pen of so many biographers of acknowledged ability, that little remains for a new writer but to make a judicious selection from existing materials, and to pronounce an equitable judgment on a remarkable man, the complex character of whose genius and life demands a calm consideration, equally remote from patriotic idolatry on the one hand, and Pharisaic severity on the other. In the choice of the materials so richly provided by Currie, Walker, Cunningham, Chambers, Douglas, and others, I have been guided by a desire to combine variety of situation with strongly pronounced aspects of character; and, as a matter of course also, have allowed the poet, both in his verse and in his prose, to be as much as possible his own portrait painter.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Life of Robert Burns (Classic Reprint), by John Stuart Blackie

About the Author Catherine Carswell's (1879-1946) friendship with D.H. Lawrence was kindled by her favorable review of The White Peacock (1911). They met in 1914 and their relationship lasted until Lawrence's death in. In 1916 she and Lawrence exchanged manuscripts of Open the Door! and Women in Love. Her novel was completed in 1918 and won the Melrose Prize on publication in 1920. Her other novel, The Camomile, was published two years later, after which she devoted herself to The Life of Robert Burns, which made her name in 1930. This was quickly followed by a biography of Lawrence, The Savage Pilgrimage (1932). She worked with John Buchan's widow on his memorial anthology, The Clearing House (1946) and on her own autobiography, which was published, incomplete, as Lying Awake in 1950. Carswell died in Oxford at the age of 66.

The hard, endless, useless struggle drove him into a relentless downward spiral. Everyone knows the contempt he brought upon himself by his loose ways, but did his contemporaries, his supposed betters, recognize their own contribution to his pathetic and tragic end?His heart was good. Better than the smug society that turned its back on him. Those women most deeply involved in his life, though of low estate, were nonetheless more worthy of his genius than the disapproving gentlefolk in their tidy parlors. It was so simple: he needed a secure and sufficient livelihood. Even the heart-wrenching emotion of his simplest words, even the transcendent heights of his patriotic verse could not feed his dependents and himself. He needed the help of an understanding society. A society that in the end did not deserve the glory he brought to his country. This excellent biography, written with feeling and understanding, kept my interest from first page to last. It did not by any means seek to minimize this great poet's many failings nor to deny his own contributions to his many, many defeats. But he was a helpless animal caught in a trap, a trap into which he was born. This book gave me, for the first time, an understanding of Robert Burns' predicament. He had lost any hope of being accepted by people whose patronage he needed; he could not cope with the unscrupulous publishing world; and he could not function as a low-level government employee. The world would not pay him what his genius was worth. Some people have made a fortune from his poetry, many have found immense joy in it, Scotland has been immeasurably ennobled by it, but not one of them deserved him.

Excerpt from Meditations of a Parish Priest: ThoughtsSeveral years ago, when I began my félibrian studies, I observed in the Review of the Romance Languages, two or three little chansons de geste (heroic songs), by a Limousin author, who was unknown to me, the Abbé Joseph Roux., I wrote to him; a correspondence sprang up between us, and the pleasure which I soon enjoyed in my intercourse with my new friend suggested to me the idea of allowing others to participate in it.I had, in fact, discovered in the Abbe Roux, not only the Limousin poet whom I had set out to seek, but a remarkable French writer and almost a polygraph.I shall never forget the feeling of surprise which I experienced when I came to examine for the first time the voluminous pile of his manuscripts, when it was, with me, only a question of a note upon a poet.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Lectures on the Religion of the Semites: First Series, the Fundamental InstitutionsIn April 1887 I was invited by the trustees of the Burnett Fund to deliver three courses of lectures at Aberdeen, in the three years from October 1888 to October 1891, on "The primitive religions of the Semitic peoples, viewed in relation to other ancient religions, and to the spiritual religion of the Old Testament and of Christianity." I gladly accepted this invitation; for the subject proposed had interested me for many years, and it seemed to me possible to treat it in a way that would not be uninteresting to the members of my old University, in whose hall the Burnett Lectures are delivered, and to the wider public to whom the gates of Marischal College are opened on the occasion. In years gone by, when I was called upon to defend before the courts of my Church the rights of historical research, as applied to the Old Testament, I had reason to acknowledge with gratitude the fairness and independence of judgment which my fellow-townsmen of Aberdeen brought to the discussion of questions which in most countries are held to be reserved for the learned, and to be merely disturbing to the piety of the ordinary layman; and I was glad to have the opportunity of commending to the notice of a public so impartial and so intelligent the study of a branch of comparative religion which, as I venture to think, is indispensable to the future progress of Biblical research.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. By Carlos Romero natural cinephile My interest in history (both ancient and modern), was reason enough of why I wanted to read this book. However, what really led me to this scholarly work: I needed to learn about some other cause/explanation for all the troubles brewing in the Middle East (besides the interventionist policies of the U.S. and Co.). And in W. Robertson Smith's "Lectures on the Religion of the Semites: First Series the Fundamental Institutions" (new edition and revised throughout by the author; Adam and Charles Black, London 1894), I believe, we do arrive at some definitive confirmation to the underlying cause that's, buried in the long-forgotten past (I already had an inkling of this, but more proof of this kind was essential). This work deals with the ancient Semitic peoples (the ancestors of the Jews and Arabs, as well as the other nations in the region), and their original religious and tribal practices (Heathenism), before Judaism and, in the case of the Arabs: the much later development of Islam. From the research amassed in this book, we come to understand why the principles of Kinship, the Blood Covenant (or Sacrifice), and other "taboos", were such a deep-seated and instilled force on the Semitic clans and tribes (both pastoral and agricultural), and the probable root-cause for these peoples (Jews and Arabs), ensuing 'blood-feuds' of a vengeful nature, that display very barbaric and primordial instincts even to this day (the kinship of "blood" must still be a very active force; albeit in a subconscious form, in the Semitic mindset. The Arabs, even more than the Jews, certainly display this tendency. But even less enlightened Jews have this primitive trait. Of course, not everyone in these groups behaves this way, and I would be painting an unfair and inaccurate picture to say otherwise). Not to mention the influence these ancient Semitic rites/practices (some of a piacular type), had on early Christianity, and on the Roman Catholic Church in general (i.e.---the Sacrament of Holy Communion). Here's a small excerpt.Rules of Holiness and Taboo:Pages 153 - 154"The fact that all the Semites have rules of uncleanness as well as rules of holiness, that the boundary between the two is often vague, and that the former as well as the latter present the most startling agreement in point of detail with savage taboos, leaves no reasonable doubt as to the origin and ultimate relations of the idea of holiness. On the other hand, the fact that the Semites---or at least the northern Semites---distinguish between the holy and the unclean, marks a real advance above savagery."Mystic:Page 358"From this point of view the obscure rites described by the prophets have a vastly greater importance than has been commonly recognised; they mark the first appearance in Semitic history of the tendency to found religious societies on voluntary association and mystic initiation, instead of natural kinship and nationality. This tendency was not confined to the Hebrews, nor did it reach its chief development among them. The causes which produced a resuscitation of obsolete mysteries among the Jews were at work at the same period among all the Northern Semites; for everywhere the old national deities had shown themselves powerless to resist the gods of Assyria and Babylon. And among these nations the tendency to fall back for help on primitive superstitions was not held in check, as it was among the Hebrews, by the counter-influence of the Prophets and the Law. From this period, therefore, we may date with great probability the first rise of the mystical cults which played so large a part in the later developments of ancient paganism, and spread their influence over the whole Graeco-Roman world. Most of these cults appear to have begun among the Northern Semites, or in the parts of Asia Minor that fell under the empire of the Assyrians and Babylonians."We also learn, that among some Semitic clans, women were allowed to have more than one husband (Polyandry), before the rules and laws of Kinship (descent) were switched to favor the male (Patriarchy). And the sacrifice of "firstlings" (including first-born male children), was common practice, especially in olden times. This has a strong connection with the rites of other: savage/primitive societies.Additional Notes:page 464"Further, there is a close connection between the firstlings and the piacular holocaust; both are limited to males, and the holocaust of Samuel (1 Sam. vii 9) is a sucking lamb, while from Ex. xx. 30 we see that firstlings were offered on the eighth day (or, probably, as soon after it as was practicable; cf. Lev. xxii. 27). The consecration of first-born male children (Ex. xiii. 13, xxii. 28, xxxiv. 20) has always created a difficulty. The legal usage was to redeem the human firstlings, and in Num. iii. this redemption is further connected in a very complicated way with the consecration of the tribe of Levi. It appears, however, that in the period immediately before the exile, when sacrifices of first-born children became common, these grisly offerings were supposed to fall under the law of firstlings (Jer. vii. 31, xix. 5; Ezek. xx. 25). To conclude from this that at one time the Hebrews actually sacrificed all their first-born sons is absurd; but, on the other hand, there must have been some point of attachment in ancient custom for the belief that the deity asked for such a sacrifice. In point of fact, even in old times, when exceptional circumstances called for a human victim, it was a child, and by preference a first-born or only child, that was selected by the peoples in and around Palestine."Overall, I found this book to be an excellent and engaging read, and indispensable for everyone interested in the subject matter. I highly recommend it.I don't pretend to have the answers or the solution to the problems in the Middle East (it is my belief, that at the heart of the matter: there is a much greater spiritual principle and aspect at work here. But that will have to be reserved for another discussion), but it's highly probable that if, these people (Jews and Arabs), re-explored their ancient bond of "Kinship" and "break bread together at the table (altar)", they may come to some mutual respect and understanding, that was already superficially there. Let's hope and pray for that day!Observation:The books of the Old Testament were handed down by oral tradition from much older sources. The people of that time, were not intellectually prepared and or ready (they however, still had a faint hint of the clairvoyance of olden times), to receive these "allegories", and took them in the literal sense (this is the case even today, surprisingly enough). This would explain as to why these seemingly "pastoral" peoples (who were very akin to nature), in their primitive state of society, misinterpreted these teachings and adapted them in their degenerated form, to adhere to the "taboos" and superstitions, they already had as their belief. W. Robertson Smith's research and findings is completely from a traditional scientific/historical approach. But, this actually allows us to take this information, and compliment if not necessarily, reconcile the work and research of Spiritual Scientists like Rudolf Steiner on a comparative basis.Love and Peace,Carlos Romero

PART 1, 2 and 3. “Shawn, I have to tell you something.” I dreaded telling my best friend, Shawn, that I was in love with his dad, yet I knew I had to tell him. Everything. I had to tell him that not only was I in love with his dad—Patrick—but his dad reciprocated those same feelings. Patrick was in love with me, too. He was my best friend, and I wanted to be honest with him. But before I could get it all out, Shawn stopped me and said, “I have something to tell you, too.” My world was never the same after that.

Though they went through some difficulties, they managed to stay together. The age difference was significant, but not too much. Patrick and Loren were an awesome couple. The author made their story interesting and relatable.

Amazon.com Review "One night, after thinking it over for some time, Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight." So begins this gentle story that shows just how far your imagination can take you. Armed only with an oversized purple crayon, young Harold draws himself a landscape full of beauty and excitement. But this is no hare-brained, impulsive flight of fantasy. Cherubic, round-headed Harold conducts his adventure with the utmost prudence, letting his imagination run free, but keeping his wits about him all the while. He takes the necessary purple-crayon precautions: drawing landmarks to ensure he won't get lost; sketching a boat when he finds himself in deep water; and creating a purple pie picnic when he feels the first pangs of hunger.

Crockett Johnson's understated tribute to the imagination was first published in 1955, and has been inspiring readers of all ages ever since. Harold's quiet but magical journey reminds us of the marvels the mind can create, and also gives us the wondrous sense that anything is possible. (Ages 4 to 8)

By OAKSHAMAN Yes, I am a 45 year old man writing a review for a children's book, and, no, I do not think that I ought to be ashamed of myself. A short while ago I stumbled upon a copy of this book by accident and I could't believe the flood of warm and pleasant memories that it brought back. This was perhaps my favorite childhood book, along with the sequels. Maybe this was because from my earliest memories I always wanted to be an artist, and that is what Harold was, an artist with a magic purple crayon. He was more than an artist, he was a creator of worlds. That was important, he wasn't presented as a trivial person doing "art", he was the creative force behind whole new worlds. Or "co-creator", for he often seemed as surprised as the reader at what flowed out of that crayon. While I didn't become an artist, I did work for most of my life as a draftsman and designer. I've seen many, many things in the real world start life as a drawing on my board or computer screen. I think that I kept faith with Harold....

I am now 18, and still reminisce on my beloved journeys around the world in a hot air balloon with Harold. This is the book that I borrowed for the first time, and then got it later again and again. It is one of the first books that ever opened my mind up to the total loss of imagination to all possibilities. Every time I read it I would think of many more adventures Harold could have had with his mystical purple crayon. Even to this day, I can think of no better book to give a child's imagination a glimpse of what possibilities there are. It is easy reading for the youngest of believers, but gives thought of what could be to even the oldest readers. I personally was not a child who favored reading, but this book was one of the few that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was one that I would read in the library while the class was still in it, and then would bring home for further enjoyment. I cannot recommend this book higher for any child whose imagination can run wild.

189 of 203 people found the following review helpful. What Is Reality? By Andrew Schonbek This splendid little book starts with the protagonist, Harold, "...thinking it over for some time" and deciding to go for a walk in the moonlight. This may seem unremarkable, but it is not. There is no moon. There is nothing to walk on. There is nowhere to go.For the only things that are real are Harold and the purple crayon. Otherwise, the universe in which he finds himself is apparently empty; nothing else is present. But what does nothing look like? It looks like nothing - a blank sheet of paper. But that kind of nothing is just exactly what is needed when what one is holding in one's hand is a purple crayon. And so the adventure gets underway. The first thing Harold does on setting out is draw a horizontal line. This may seem unimportant, but it is not.For what he has drawn is the horizon, and this means that now he is standing on the ground. He can walk on it too...Next he draws the moon (necessary if the walk is indeed to be in the moonlight). Harold draws it above the horizon - this means that it is in the sky. Now there is a reference point for height, and a world of three dimensions has come into being.Off he goes, drawing a path, a forest (with only one tree so he won't get lost in it) and a dragon to guard the apples that are growing in the tree. Here the creator encounters unintended consequences, as the dragon that he has wrought is so fearsome as to frighten even him. Harold backs away, his hand shaking, inadvertently drawing a wavy line as he goes. The wavy line traces out waves, and before he knows it, Harold is underwater in an ocean. He rescues himself by drawing a boat and makes his way to an unknown distant shore. The rest of the story is about Harold's trying to find his way back home. On the way there are more adventures as Harold searches far and wide. He creates an entire city with many windows but none of them is his.But then, he remembers how he used to see the moon through the window of his room. And all that is needed for homecoming is to draw a box around the moon - now he is inside looking out.As Harold draws his bed around him and goes to sleep, I found myself pondering what's real and what is not, and reflecting on those moments when we wonder where we really are and how we ever got to be here.

PDF Ebook Online Familyhood, by Paul Reiser

In the number-one New York Times best seller Couplehood, Paul Reiser wrote about the highs and lows of falling in love and getting married - and the heartbreak and hilarity that comes with it. In Babyhood, he turned his sharply observant eye to the experiences of having a brand-new family. And now in Familyhood, Reiser shares his observations on parenting, marriage, and mid-life with the wit, warmth, and humor that he's so well-known for.

From the first experience of sending his two boys off to summer camp - the early feelings of gleeful freedom in an empty house, to realizing how empty the house actually was - to maneuvering the minefield of bad words learned at school, this hilarious new book captures the spirit of familyhood, the logical next frontier for Reiser's trademark perspective on the universal truths of life, love, and relationships.

I giggled my way through "Couplehood" I cried with laughter through "Babyhood" and couldn't wait to get my hands on "Parenthood"When it finally arrived at my door today I put down what I was currently reading and dug right in. I have to say, I'm not certain my hopes were entirely met. That isn't to say it wasn't good, or funny. It absolutely was. But I think this book was much different from his others...it was less about humor and more about thoughtful story telling. There seemed to be more nostalgia than laughs. Which, as I said, wasn't a bad thing, just not what I had come to expect from Mr. Reiser. This however, shouldn't have been a surprise. It's been a very long time since his last book came out. He's gone from a new parent to being midway into getting his youngest son out of school. I suppose it was time for the nostalgia to come in.While I didn't find as many gut busting laugh out loud moments in this book, there were some, and what replaced those moments was something just as fine....something you can relate to no matter what stage of life you're in..the only requirement is that, at some point in your life, you've had a family. The book illustrates the idea we've all held at some point, that familyhood, the process of being a family is a very delicate, complicated and flawed thing. That no matter how much you try to change the things you felt were wrong in your own family growing up, life will absolutely do all it can to thwart your plans and take your plans and throw them out the window, but that's okay too. It gives you the idea that familyhood isn't so much a destination as a journey, as worn as that sounds....that life is for the living, not the planning..and besides, we have no idea where we're going anyway.I found this book especially fun to read being in the stage of life that I am now, a parent of a school age child who's finding his own life, apart from mine and my struggles to try to be a parent, but feeling like I'm constantly faced with impossible choices. ....in fact, there is a part in the book where one of his sons announces that he now knows certain cuss words.. this same situation happened with my son literally a few months ago. It was comforting to know I'm not the only one faced with that particular conversation, and all the other conversations that must happen with the ongoing struggle to decide how much is enough, how much is too much and how much is downright neglectful parenting. Again, his answer is there is no answer, you do what you can to keep your family on course as best you can...there'll be some over steer, some under steer, but as long as you maintain the same general direction as you intended, you'll all get where you're supposed to be eventually. So, in summary, I think you'll really only enjoy this book on 1 condition....if you've ever had, ever thought of having or ever will have your own family.... other than that, skip it.

Mostly if you have read his other ones: couplehood/babyhood. Now that I have read familyhood, I now know what it means to have a family and the importance of keeping that family alive and supportive. Paul Reiser wrote about the highs and lows of falling in love and getting married — and the heartbreak and hilarity that comes with it. In Babyhood, he turned his sharply observant eye to the experiences of having a brand-new family. And now in Familyhood, Reiser shares his observations on parenting, marriage, and mid-life with the wit, warmth, and humor that he’s so well-known for. From the first experience of sending his two boys off to summer camp — the early feelings of gleeful freedom in an empty house, to realizing how empty the house actually was — to maneuvering the minefield of bad words learned at school, this hilarious new book captures the spirit of familyhood, the logical next frontier for Reiser’s trademark perspective on the universal truths of life, love, and relationships. An amazing actor, he is also an amazing author. He literally gets right down to the nitty gritty of things that make you think what are YOU doing with your life? How is it? Are you making your quota? Are you helping out your family? When I was sitting there reading his book (so while reading his book, I went back and read his other books, just to be on top of things) I was actually revaluating my life! I was thinkng, where has my life gown too, what have I done personally to make my life a living example to my kids (if I ever have any)? He really makes you think about your own life and that what I love about him. His show MAD ABOUT YOU, made me think of my life as well. Good for you Paul Reiser!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Made me laugh and cry! By Bradley W. Both Yes, what a well timed book! I so enjoyed "Couplehood" from Reiser some 15 (or more) years ago, that I shared it with many of my friends, all of whom found it as hilarious as I did. In the midst of having my own babies at the time he published "Babyhood", I completely missed out on that one. I was THRILLED to see he went on to write Familyhood! Reiser is such a gifted writer and humorist, that I laughed out loud for much of the book. He writes with the same sarcastic humor I so enjoyed in Couplehood. So many of his stories and analogies hit home, as I now have a family of five. He shared personal, heart felt stories that reflect what most in his generation are going through: looking at our past through the eyes of our aging parents, and living our childhoods all over again through our own children's lives. While I laughed hysterically at his "Dr. Nutjob" story, I cried with happiness at the joy and fulfillment he experienced with his younger son at the beach. He is SO relatable that it felt like he was an old friend, drinking coffee in my kitchen updating me on his life.I really, really enjoyed this book. I have been in a book club, who's job it seems, is to pick the most heart-wrenching and heavy stories lately. This book was a deeply needed breath of fresh air. I hope Reiser can find another vehicle to continue reaching out to his audience.

The Story of Jon: God is Gracious is an inspirational art book that will cause you not only praise God for His goodness, but also, challenge you to praise God where you are and to break free of your boundaries for with God all things are possible. It is a story of triumph. Victory is not cheap nor does it come without adversity. Jonny knows this firsthand. The book contains Jonny's inspirational life story, his paintings, and his statements about them. Jonny had enjoyed life at full throttle, but a hospital mistake left him on a respirator fighting for his life. Jonny is a warrior, and through God’s grace, he won that battle. The cost was steep; Jonny could no longer even hold up his head. But he kept striving and is now surpassing all expectations. With God’s help he has regained the ability to walk, run, play, and much more. At only 15 years of age, Jonny is a talented artist. His unique stories are childlike and yet profound at the same time and complement his artistic ability perfectly. “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9a NKJV

I got to know them while I lived with the author's mother in "grandma's house" mentioned where the apple blossom picture is shown. I moved to Australia and Kathleen and I stayed in touch and occasionally she would share Jon's pictures with me through electronic media.I had read some of her stories in relation to Jon and I hope that eventually she will be able to share them with the world. Jonny had a lot of life in him before I left and I witnessed one of his seizures. I can tell you the family lives its talk and when Kathleen says "God is Gracious" she truly means that. This book is filled with mostly bright Artwork and the stories behind the pictures may at times seem very child like but at times they are very thought provoking as well.Come enter into the world of Jon and experience life through his eyes.

By Victoria Johnson This is a wonderful book about a strong willed young man with a joyful heart. The art is colorful and fills the reader with joy and hope while the writing reflects that feeling in words that praise God.

The paintings done by Jon are beautiful and are clearly from his heart. The story of Jon's life speaks volumes of how God has carried Jon and his family through all of it. This book gave me peace in my heart about my own special needs son who is non-verbal. It also brings to my mind the Scripture Romans 8:28- And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose. Thank you for this book! By Laura Sluss

Excerpt from The Life and Letters of Nathan Smith M. B., M.DThe medical profession and all interested in the history of medicine in this country owe a large debt to Mrs. Alan P. Smith for the preparation of "The Life and Letters of Nathan Smith," one of the most interesting and important figures in the history of American medicine. It is eminently fitting that this work should issue from the Yale University Press as a contribution to the celebration of the centennial anniversary of the opening of "The Medical Institution of Yale College," of which Dr. Smith was an organizer and chief ornament. The main sources hitherto available for what is known of the life of Nathan Smith have been the addresses of Dr. Jonathan Knight and of the Rev. Dr. William Allen, delivered and published shortly after his death in 1829, the "Medical and Surgical Memoirs" by his son, Dr. Nathan R. Smith, published in 1831, and especially the "Historical Discourse" by Dr. Oliver P. Hubbard, printed in 1880, to all of which repeated reference is made in this book. The many scattered estimates and accounts, mostly of an incidental nature, of the life and work of this remarkable man in medical writings have been drawn in the main from the foregoing sources.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. I thought it was going to be about things adults could do to increase the amusement of children while visiting Disney World. Instead, this book is for children to increase their own enjoyment of visiting Disney World. The book is for the child to plan their trip, then to take the book with them during the trip. There is a section in the back for them to gather autographs from the characters. I love that it encourages a kid to read! It guides the child in determining what they may enjoy the most during their visit. It also sets the stage for the child to become even more excited about their trip: "10 days before the trip...; 9 days before..." etc.The book is written in a manner that lets the child decide which portion(s) of the book they want to know more about without having to read the book from beginning to end. It is also good for children of different ages and reading levels; although, I believe it is probably not for children who are not yet in school. I suspect the child should have some reading ability before this book will appeal to them on a personal level.I liked the way the book was presented so well that I ordered three more copies - one for each grandchild. I intend to give each child their own copy well before we leave on our trip and I intend to tell them that while the book is for "2016" the general information will be good for future trips. I am all for any book that will encourage a child to read and dream. It is good for them.

There are Reader Reviews (specifically written by kids--mainly ages 8-13); Hot Tips; Hidden Mickey Hints and a TON of other great ideas for taking kids to WDW. I would definitely recommend it to ANYONE (and EVERYONE) who is planning a trip with a child. I only wish I'd ordered my copy sooner so I didn't have to read it so quickly!

If you are planning a trip to Disney World, this is a great book for your kids. It really helps them know all the attractions and get even more excited about going!Do note that it is basically the exact same book that we have from 2011. If I had realized it wouldn't change with the exception of adding 1 ride, I would have just stuck with our older version.

Excerpt from The Letters of Anne Gilchrist and Walt WhitmanProbably there are few who to-day question the propriety of publishing the love-letters of eminent persons a generation after the deaths of both parties to the correspondence. When one recalls the published love-letters of Abelard, of Dorothy Osborne, of Lady Hamilton, of Mary Wollstonecraft, of Margaret Fuller, of George Sand, Bismarck, Shelley, Victor Hugo, Edgar Allan Poe, and - to mention only one more illustrious example - of the Brownings, one must needs look upon this form of presenting biographical material as a well-established, if not a valuable, convention of letters. As to the particular set of letters presented to the reader in this volume, a word of explanation and history may be required. Most of these letters are from Anne Gilchrist to Walt Whitman, a few are replies to her letters, and a few are letters from her children to Whit man. Mrs. Gilchrist died in 1885. When, two years later, her son, Herbert Harlakenden Gilchrist, was collecting material for his interesting biography of his mother, Whitman was asked for the letters that she had written to him - or rather for extracts from them. In reply to this request the poet said, "I do not know that I can furnish any good reason, but I feel to keep these utterances exclusively to myself.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Letters of Anne Gilchrist and Walt Whitman (Classic Reprint), by Thomas B. Harned

About the Author Walt Whitman was an American poet and writer born in New York in 1819. Despite his family s financial troubles, Whitman attended school and, after graduating at age eleven, worked in a lawyer s office before becoming a printer s apprentice. Before he had even turned sixteen Whitman began anonymously publishing his poetry at the Long Island Star, where he worked. After leaving the Star, Whitman moved through several jobs including teaching, publishing and typesetting. Eventually, though, Whitman determined to make his living writing poetry, and paid for the first publication of Leaves of Grass himself when he was thirty-seven. At the time of its publication, Leaves of Grass was met with controversy and was criticized for its overtly sexual themes, however, but it has since come to be one of the most important works in early American literature and a product of the transcendentalist movement. Whitman died in 1892 at the age of seventy-two.
