Her account unveils the mind and heart of a grieving parent. Clinging to her strong Christian faith she illustrates an undeniable reality—grief is unpredictable. But when everything else in life seems to be changing, we can rely on our unchanging God. A great read for anyone trying to understand the changed life of a grieving parent.

Rather, it is real, it is raw, and it depicts the heart of a grieving mother following the death of her 20-year-old son Andrew. August 12, 2013 will be a date never forgotten. Her answer to a police officer at 5:45 AM would reveal his death the previous night incurred by a speeding 18 wheeler that would kill five of six people from the 2013 musical Texas. Blog pages that fallow would be turned into this book following suggestions of friends. "The following pages contain my posts, thoughts, and essays just as I wrote them… My prayer is that my words honor my family, glorify my Lord, and help those who are grieving begin to heal. I pray also that my words help those who love those who grieve."As a reader absorbs Kathleen Duncan's chronological posts they will gain the feel of the grieving process a parent goes through and how God's mercy intervenes. Frequent, uncontrollable tears will pour out initially and the first year without Andrew on the holidays are described. "I am so wishing Andrew was on his way home for Thanksgiving today… Many Americans are thinking less than two weeks until Christmas! I am sitting here thinking, he would've been 21 in 12 days… We hosted our annual Christmas Eve Open House. I was able to hold it together until after folks left. I sobbed myself to sleep. " so frequently drawing on the strength of God's word, and knowing He is good and able, here is a reflection after six months. "I don't want to do lunch or chat on the phone with friends. I want to be at home – peaceful and quiet. Today started as a time to cry kind of day. But counting blessings turned it to a work and clean kind of day."To help reduce the sting of the 12th day of each month she would begin making a list of at least a dozen things she is grateful for. The realities of pain and suffering or inescapable. One year following – "The pictures of Andrew's friends heading back to class… I choose to stay off Facebook today, the first day back to school. " Yet, through her pain she extends comfort to others going through the grieving process. "There is only one healthy way to deal with our issues during our grief: we must continue to trust in our Creator and our Savior. We must ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance and comfort. We must continue to walk a path of faith and grace. "As I traced her life two years following Andrew's death many helpful strategies were provided along the way including the following:– Marie's parents honest and vulnerable wishes– What parents with a baby in heaven want you to know(but may not say)– Scriptures to pray for your grieving friends– What not to say to a grieving family– What teen siblings need in their time of grief– Tools to use if fear, anxiety and/or panic attacks developDiscover what exactly recovery will mean. Never a recovery back to normal. Acceptance and mourning taking on new dimensions. I feel every adult should read this book to better understand the "do's" and "don'ts" when dealing with those in grief. It is a resource full book far greater than psychology books on death and dying. Duncan's heart did not lie and offer the best strategies around. I salute her bravery and honesty and know this work will benefit many.

A place of remembering TRUTH, that in reality, death is a door not the end.This book imparts raw emotion, including the actual words Kathleen wrote in the midst of processing her grief AND hope...real hope ... even in the moments immediately after hearing the news about their son Andrew's death, as she and her husband, Ron, recognize the reality that Andrew is more alive now than he was on earth, dancing and worshipping before his Lord and King! This book shows how she and Ron walk in the reality that God is real and His love can carry us through even the darkest hours and most heart-wrenching anguish.This book is genuine and full of hope.Thank you for taking the time to write it.

13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. 4 stars By Erica Smith A One-Click Addict's Book Blog Stop in the Name of Love is my first book by the author and immediately after reading I headed to her Goodread's page to add at least half of her library to my TBR.This is a romantic suspense with a sexy cop, a reluctant heroine and a whole lot of chemistry.A slightly conservative pre-school teacher who has an aversion to dating cops, she refuses to get involved with them at all.An undercover cop who finds himself wanting to get involved with her even though he knows why she doesn't want anything to do with cops.It had everything I was looking for and then some. The story flows well, is well written and edited and definitely piqued my interest in the authors other works.

Fast paced romantic suspense at its best - it has everything: a hot undercover cop and frightened and demure preschool teacher that cannot stand to be around cops. Through necessity of circumstance, they are forced together and what follows is a wonderful story that had me turning pages just as quickly as possible. Add in some very hot sex scenes that might be the sexiest I've ever read without being coarse or crude and you have a winning combination.While this is the first book I've read by this author, it will not be the last. I've added her to my must read authors' list. This one is a must read for romantic suspense fans.

She has experienced real tragedy in her life when she lost first her uncle, then her fiance, and finally her father to the job. Bridge, after watching his own mother's suffering as the wife of a cop has decided that happy ever after with a wife and kids isn't for him. When they meet while Bridge is undercover, they are drawn to each other with a need they've never known before. Sexual tension, sweet and sexy romance, and danger are all part of this story. I loved Bridge and Mary Alice and I completely enjoyed this book.

Once again I'm impressed with Tricia's smooth flowing fun writing.This is book two in the series but it can be read as a standalone. Although I highly suggest reading book one, This is Me, first as it is wonderful and it tells us so much about the characters. This is a fun book. I envied the main character Amanda for many reasons. She has it all great caring parents, handsome good men in her life, and she is smart.This made me so happy for her as she is lucky do have so much support. She's a cool character, conservative, and innocent almost to a fault, almost. Some of choices made me yell but hey it kept it interesting and kept me guessing.Amanda is a sweet girl. Her parents obviously love her to the moon and back but are VERY strict and protective of her especially her dad. He barely lets her breathe alone let alone have a social life. This causes serious waves between them. And Doug, oh Doug is a sexy swoon worthy pain in the butt. He's not liked by her parents or friends much and for good reasons. He brings new drama in this book and it's shocking. What will it be? Amanda still want him after this?This is the second book I've read by this author and I absolutely LOVED it. Her writing is wonderful, fun, and full of details. This book was fast paced, exciting, and very well written. The way Tricia writes shows us how the characters think and I love that. To be brought into the minds of these characters was exciting and neat. Great job Tricia please write many more books asap and I Will read them all.I received an arc of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a wonderful continuation to the first book. The author continues to do a great job, drawing you into Amanda's psyche and the dynamics of her relationships. Her relationships in this book become more complex and challenging, thus letting the reader further into Amanda's head. Amanda's relationship with Doug flourishes and gets more serious, but because of that, her relationship with her parents is becoming incredibly strained. This causes her parents expectations of her to change due to her closeness with Doug. The result is pushing Amanda further away from her parents and closer to pursuing a life with Doug. Pursuing a life with Doug will be difficult with her still in school, and he pursuing his international dreams. What will happen? You find yourself rooting for her love and relationship with Doug and wanting to try and make her parents understand. The author does a good job leaving you wanting more and making your own predictions as to what is going to happen in the third book. I can't wait to see what happens.

I wanted to continue to be enveloped by Amanda's story and peek into her blossoming relationship with Doug. Her relationship with Zach in book 2 seems a little far-fetched but it's a great thought that we could be that close with an ex as friends after a break-up. I got into the storyline quickly and found myself on both sides of the relationship turmoil with her parents. It's hard for me to read about the growing pains of family relationships and not want to step in and fix or suggest problem solving. The author continued to weave in joy and pain in a way that tugged at the romantic side of me and then tugged at the pragmatic side of me. The book was over too quickly. I'm hooked and want to read more of Amanda's life. Because of some sexual content I won't have my teens read this book but the author is tasteful in her descriptions of their intimacy.

Although I did not agree with everything J. Kilmer articulates in a couple of these essays, I still loved his work. A favorite, worthy for a shelf. And one reason that it is 5 stars is because I learned more on the structure of a sonnet in a single essay than anywhere else.

Like every concerned parent, I tried to soothe his fears and told him they were only his imagination and that what he was seeing wasn't real. I had no idea how wrong I was! When I learned of this book I ordered it right away and read it in two days. I completely changed my instructions to my son. I told him 1.) he had authority over what he saw, 2.) he needed to protect his eye gate and what he was watching, 3.) pray to see good things in his dreams and not evil, 4.) pray to take control of his dreams, 5.) God has a plan and a purpose for his life and he will use these experiences to help others. It took about 3 weeks of talking about this information regularly, but amazingly last week my son had a dream. He told me that in the dream Jesus told him not to be afraid because Jesus is always with him. That seemed too good to be true and I wasn't sure I believed him at first, but my husband and I have seen very clear changes in my son and his fear is leaving! He hasn't been afraid at night anymore, or to go into his room with the light off. These are things he hasn't done in years. I thank God for this book. I have searched for years for answers and I finally found it!

By Amazon Customer First of all, I am one of those people who typically start a book and never finish it. When I started reading this book, I could not put it down and read it from cover to cover in one sitting! I could not put it down as it draws you in so quickly. What an Amazing book!! God does still speak to us in dreams! And, the enemy is still in the business of trying to bring fear into our lives with nightmares and night terrors. As parents, I'm sure your children have told you about their dreams. But, more often, they likely told you of their nightmares and probably spent many of nights sleeping in mom and dads bed after a bad dream. And, I'm sure there have been quite a few imaginary friends for your children. If you're like me, you probably wondered and even discussed these encounters/dreams with family and friends and wondered what do these mean and what can I do to comfort my child. God does not want us, or our children to live in fear and has equipped us with all the tools we need to overcome these nightmares. He also uses dreams to speak to us and seals instruction for our lives and our destiny. But, how do we know what our dreams mean and how can we take control of these nightmares so our children are not afraid to go back to bed. Recie's years of experience traveling the world, teaching on dreams and the spirit realm have given him great insights on dream interpretation. He goes into great detail in his book on how God speaks to our children in dreams as well as how the enemy attacks them with nightmares. He does an awesome job to guide parents and help them understand how, with the Lord's help, they can interpret their children's dreams and how we can control our nightmares and take charge over these attacks. Even if you do not have children, this book is great, if you are interested in finding out why God speaks to us in dreams and finding out the meaning of your dreams.

I myself just became a parent of twins and even though I've heard Reesie speak and I fully believe everything he's taught, it was so encouraging to re-learn some of these things and learn new things. Even though I have yet to deal with my children learning of the spirit realm since they're still newborns, I feel much more confident going into parenthood with a toolkit to handle situations that otherwise might have intimidate me. The book is very well written, to the point and easy to understand. I have a hard time keeping my attention while reading books but I found this was a very exciting and captivating read. I read it two sittings! Now I just can't wait for book number two from Recie Saunders :-)

I knew it would be fictional but wasn't sure if it was going to grasp my full attention. I was very pleased when I was able to read it in less than a week and only because I wanted to continue reading and never stop! You do not have to be a part of the "inner circle" of friends to understand the writing of Leanne. It was not only very entertaining, but Leanne shows so much of her intelligence with her writing skills. You are brought deeper and deeper into the stories being told, I couldn't wait until the next story to be told. I wanted Shine to succeed in EVERYTHING not only because we need more happy endings, but because she suffered enough and was really on her own. Shine proved everybody wrong and it was nothing but an honor to be able to see the way she turned out. I only hope we can see more of her in the very near future.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this coming of age novel. I laughed. I cried. I laughed some more. This book is perfect for anyone who may have lost a parent or suffered the abuse of bullies in school. It shows that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. It gives hope. The various stories told throughout the book are captivating. I couldn't put the book down! An absolute must read!

Nothing about losing a parent that young is easy, and this book doesn't try to sugar coat the profound loss. The book is raw and emotional bur the ending left me feeling peaceful and satisfied.

Every morning Bret Baumgarten would ask his daughter, "What will your beautiful hands do today?" This book was inspired by that question and gorgeously woven together by Kathryn Otashi. While I still love "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein, this is my new favorite children's book. Children and adults alike will be inspired to question what their hands can do to make the world a better place. What an incredible legacy Bret Baumgarten has left for us all to enjoy!

I've always strived to instill within my children the idea that the possibilities for them are endless and that they are capable of anything. This book, by posing a very simple question, inspires the reader to explore these possibilities every day. I highly recommend this to every parent.

There is a wonderful message of giving children confidence in their ability to create as well as help their community. I was impressed. There was very little mistakes, very detailed, and had enough suspense to keep you reading. The story and the characters are detailed enough that you can connect to them and the events in the story. I would encourage others to read this story if they like romance and a little suspense. It was enough suspense that I didn’t want to put the book down. It doesn’t give you the normal stepbrother/ stepsister fall in love stories. I see this as a different story of friends who grew apart and later find out that they are stepbrother and stepsister and find a newer and stronger love.Overview: (May contain spoilers). Jackson and Jessica were best friends as well as secret boyfriend and girl since seventh grade. The two were never separated, and yet they never introduced each other to their parents. At the end of high school, a major event happened that changed Jackson’s life. He left for the Army while Jess went to college. For four years they wrote letters to each other and never really moved on to regular relationships. On the fifth year, Jackson knew something was wrong. Jess was not sending letters that were like her and his dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer, so he decides to go home. When he arrives, he is met by Gary an old classmate who warned him about his past problem with Eric Martin’s and the Martin’s family (rich family of the town). Jackson freaks when he sees that the paper has an announcement saying Jess, his jess, is marring Eric Martins. Jackson can’t handle the news, so he decides to go home to his dad and his new wife. When he arrives at the address, he is shocked to see that it’s Jessica’s house. She answers the door and jumps into his arms and kisses him. It now registers that his best friend is now is Stepsister. After a weird family dinner, Jess and Jackson go on a walk and she fills him in on his dad’s health, how she was forced to come home from college to help her mom (Mallory) and Alfred (Jackson’s dad). Mallory works as a journalist and is gone a lot for her stories and Jess is taking care of Alfred. Jackson finds out about the debt Mallory has with the Martin family and how Jess if being forced to marry Eric to help ease the debt. Both Jackson and Jess try to fight their attraction to each other as well as find a way to solve the family issues, but find that they are in the middle of a major crime ring. They can’t trust a lot of people and their parents don’t understand how bad the Martin’s are. But when crime is brought to the door, they finally decide to see it through new eyes. Will Jess and Jackson find a way to save them all? Will the Martin’s be brought down? What does the future hold for all of them?

He has always been protective of her but during the five years he went way to the service something changed within the last year.Jessica live has not turned out the way she had expected for one thing her mother cuts of her funding for college and tells her she needs to come home. Her stepfather is diagnosis with cancer and her mother still does not really stay to help take care of him. She finds out that financially they are in ruins but her mother is denial about how to resolve this problem.Jackson's parents' divorce when he was younger and he does not have a strong relationship with either parent. When he was younger he was much scrawny but he still took up for the underdog. It was after one such confrontation involving his friends Jessica it was determined that he needed to leave town or he might face going to jail. He and Jessica wrote faithfully for the first four years and during his last year the girl he new was no longer the same person writing and he felt the need to go home and find out what happened. The twist is when he arrives to visit his father he finds out that his dad has married Jessica's mother.As Jackson learns what has all happened during his time away he is determined to save his the woman he has loved for a long time, help his father while battling the cancer and protect his new stepmother from the financial mess and criminal element affecting their lives.Jessica comes home from school and does not find out until later the financial mess her mother has gotten into. Jessica and her mother have not had a good relation all of her life. They do not actually communicate with each other on a personal level. Jess has always believed everything always came second place to her mother's career as a journalist. Her mother's belief is that if she can prove that the man they owe money too is a criminal then their financial worries would be over.This is a story about a man willing to do anything to protect the woman he loves even kill if necessary.The character of Jackson is very likable, determined and hot headed. The Jessica character was not capable of long term planning and lived on the hope that something would come along and help resolve the situation her family found themselves in. Her most redeemable trait was that she loved Jackson and would do anything to keep him from harm.

It was the best refreshing stepbrother book I ever read. It had an actually story to follow not all sex. It was a great relationship story. Jessica and Jackson loved each other forever then they were at a crossroad. Jess went to college after high school and Jackson went in the Army. He had anger issues and thought some discipline would help him. Jackson comes back home after five years and lets just say they were different from when he left. His dad is married to Jessica's mother. A nemesis they he and Jess dealt with in school is more dangerous now. He is causing plenty of havoc for the townspeople. Don't want to ruin anymore. If you have read stepbrother books before I'm sure you didn't read one as great as tho one! Sable did an outstanding job with lots of twists. Thanks for this uniquely great book.
