1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not impressed By Jamie n boys The Diary of a grumpy bear book is a story about a bear who wakes up hungry after his long winter nap. The story starts off about him wanting to eat a rabbit, this part of the story really upset my 4 year old in 2 year old. The bear didn't end up eating the rabbit and ate some raspberries instead, but my kids just couldn't get past that part of the book. My four year old actually cried about it. The illustrations are pretty bleak, they are all black and white and look more like a coloring page with very little detail. The story really lacks content and the title says bear learns to count, but there's really no mention of the bear learning to count. The bear counts his 10 raspberries but he doesn't seem to have any trouble counting them and I'm not sure where they part about him learning to count comes in to the title. Overall I don't like the book whatsoever and neither did my children.

It was a cute idea and the first few pages were amusing. Grumpy Bear wakes up hungry after a long winter nap. He’s SO grumpy because he’s hungry. Good start.This is a book about counting, so I figure he’s going to be counting the things that he eats. Instead, he counts to ten once (after threatening to eat a rabbit whole), then he goes back to bed and that’s the end of the story.Aside from that, there’s just a lot of odd grammar, incorrect capitalization and punctuation, and random emoticons (??) scattered throughout. It seems like neither the author or the illustrator really tried much.Illustrations:I honestly can’t tell if the illustrations are intentionally minimalistic or just plain lazy.Cover:Actually, the cover’s alright. Good font choices (though the subtitle could use a bit of help).
